痘瘡を聖瘡（せいさう）天瘡（てんさう）ともいふ。常理（じやうり）を以て測（はか）【側は誤記ヵ】るべからず
古人の説も区々（まち〳〵）にして帰一（きいつ）の論なし。然るを今医

にて。医薬も憑（たのみ）に足（た）らずと意得べし。良医も口に

なし。順痘（じゆんとう）は薬にをよばず。薬を用ゆれば病に益なく
して薬に傷（やぶ）られ。悪痘（あくとう）に変（へん）ずることあり。逆痘と見
えても食物少しづゞもくらふ者。このんて冷水（ひやみつ）を
飲ものは。死をのがるゝものなり。すべて望（のそむ）ものは食物

○痘瘡は急性の病気であって、児童の一つの大厄である。顕道がかつて試してみるに、医者などをあれこれと選ぶのは無益なことである。生涯にただ一度の病気であって、決まった期間もある。痘瘡を聖瘡、天瘡とも言う。常識では測ることができない。古人の説もまちまちで、統一された論がない。しかるを今の医者は

治療もあるように言いなすけれども、手のつけられない病気であって、医薬も頼みにならないと心得るべきである。良医も口で善悪を言うのみ。逆痘はどれほど薬を用いても百に一つも効験がない。順痘は薬に及ばず、薬を用いれば病気に益がなくして薬に傷つけられ、悪痘に変ずることがある。逆痘と見えても食物を少しずつでも食べる者、好んで冷水を飲む者は、死を免れるものである。すべて欲しがるものは食物はもちろん、何事もその望みにまかせ、その気を和らげ
