しくなるは。おほくは初発（しよほつ）の時 薬（くすり）ちがへするに
よれり。病症（びやうしやう）にそむける薬を用ゆれば治（ぢ）しがたし。
ゆへに療治（れうじ）の要（かなめ）は初発にあり。病おこらばはやく
良医（よきいし）をまねぎて治（ぢ）すべし。病ふかくなりては治し
がたし。扁鵲（へんじやく）が斉候（せいかう）に告（つげ）たるが如（ごと）しといへり。
よろづの事も始（はじめ）につゝしまざれば。後悔（のちぐえ）おほし。

そのときは、自分でその悪い瘡（できもの）であることを恥じて人に話さず、ひそかに
同じ病気の仲間にのみ話し合い、奇薬や妙方だと言われれば
みだりに服用し、あるいは藪医者に任せ、急いで治そう
とすることを求める。医者もまた目先の効果を見せて利益を求めようと、
自分の得意だと思っている効果もない強い薬を用いる。これは少しの
火事を外に知らせず、家族だけで消し止めようと
して、かえって大火事にするのと同じである。愚か
なことの極みである。貝原先生が言うには、諸病が甚だ

しくなるのは、多くは初期の時に薬を間違えることに
よる。病状に合わない薬を用いれば治しがたい。
ゆえに治療の要は初期にある。病気が起これば早く
良医を招いて治すべきである。病が深くなっては治し
がたい。扁鵲が斉の君主に告げたのと同じであると言っている。
万事も始めに慎まなければ、後悔が多い。
