やり取りをしても何の効果もないと思ったけれども、霜月（十一月）、極月（十二月）の雪や氷が降り、皐月（五月）の日差しが照りつけても、全くそれに妨げられることなく通い続けた。この人たちは、ある時は竹取翁を呼び出して「娘を私にください」と平伏して手をすり合わせて懇願したけれども、「私自身が産んだ子ではないので、私の心に従わせることはできません」と言って月日を過ごしていた。そこでこの人たちは家に帰って物思いにふけり、祈祷をして願をかけ、思いを諦めることもできず、しかし最終的には男性と結婚させないということがあるだろうかと思って、希望を抱き続けた。むやみに愛情を示して歩き回る。これを見つけて翁がかぐや姫に言うには「あなたは仏の化身で
