はおきなともあれかくもあれ申さんとて
出てかくなん聞ゆるやうに見給へといへは御（み）
子（こ）たち上達部（かんたちめ）きゝてをいらかに【あっさりと】あたりより
たになありきそとやはのたまはぬと云てうん
して【倦んじて＝気がくじけて】みなかへりぬなを此女見ては世にあるまし
き心ちのしけれはてんちくに有物ももてこ
ぬ物かはと思ひめくらしていしつくりの御子は
こゝろのしたく有人にて天ちくに二つとなき
はちを百千万里のほといきたりともいかてか
取へきとおもひてかくやひめのもとにはけふ
なん天ちくへ石のはちとりにまかるときかせ

翁は「ともあれかくもあれ、申し上げてみましょう」と言って出て行き、「このように聞こえるように御覧ください」と言うと、皇子たちや上達部は聞いて、「呆気なく簡単に、辺りよりも谷がないとでも仰るのか」と言って気落ちして、皆帰ってしまった。それでもこの女を見ては、世にあるまじき心地がするので、天竺にある物でも持って来られない物があろうかと思い巡らして、石作皇子は心の支度のある人で、天竺に二つとない鉢を百千万里の程行ったとしても、どうして取ることができようかと思って、かぐや姫のもとには「今日、天竺へ石の鉢を取りに参ります」と聞かせて

The old man said, "In any case, I shall try to convey this," and went out. When he said, "Please see how this sounds," the princes and high court officials listened and said, "Do you think this is so simple, as if there were no valleys compared to the surrounding area?" Feeling discouraged, they all returned home. Nevertheless, having seen this woman, they felt such extraordinary emotions that they wondered if there could be anything from India that they could not bring back. Prince Ishitsukuri, being a person of mental preparation, thought that even if he traveled hundreds of thousands of miles, how could he possibly obtain a bowl that was unique in all of India? So he sent word to Princess Kaguya saying, "Today I depart for India to obtain the stone bowl."
