るり色の水山より流出たるそれには色々の玉
の橋渡せり其あたりにてりかゝやく木共立り
其中に此取て持てまうてきたりしはいとわろ
かりしか共の給ひしにたかはましかはとこの
花を折てまうて来る也山はかきりなく面白し
世にたとふへきにあらさりしかと此えたを折
てしかは更に心もとなくて船にのりておひ風
吹て四百余日になんまうてきにし大願力にや
難波よりきのふ南都にまうてきつる更に塩に
ぬれたる衣たにぬきかへなてなん立まうてき
つるとの給へはおきな聞て打なけきてよめる
現代語訳
瑠璃色の水が山より流れ出ている。それには色々の玉の橋が渡してある。その辺りで照り輝く木々が立っている。その中で「これを取って持参して来たのは、いと悪かったでしょうか」と申し上げたところ、「違いましょうか」とおっしゃったので、この花を折って持参して来るのである。山は限りなく面白い。世に例えるべきものではなかった。しかし、この枝を折ったので、更に心もとなくて船に乗って追い風が吹いて四百余日で参って来たのである。大願力によってであろうか、難波より昨日南都に参って来た。更に塩に濡れた衣さえ脱ぎ替えることなく、そのまま参って来たのです」とおっしゃると、翁はそれを聞いて打ち嘆いて詠んだ。

Waters of lapis lazuli color flow out from the mountain. Over them, bridges of various jewels are built. In that area stand trees that shine brilliantly. Among them, when I said, "Was it very wrong of me to take and bring this back?" and was told "Would it be different?", I broke off this flower to bring back. The mountain was endlessly fascinating, beyond anything that could be compared to in this world. However, having broken off this branch, I felt even more anxious and boarded the ship. With favorable winds blowing, I returned after more than four hundred days. Perhaps it was through the power of great vows - I came from Naniwa to the southern capital yesterday. I came directly here without even changing out of my salt-soaked clothes." When he said this, the old man heard it and lamented deeply, composing a poem.
