せんかへさせ給ふ時に馬にのりてつくしより只
七日にまうて来る文を見るに云火ねすみのか
は衣からうして人を出してもとて奉る今の世
にも昔の世にも此かははたはやすく【たやすく】なきものな
りけりむかしかしこき天ちくのひしり此國に
もて渡りて侍りける西の山寺にありときゝ及
ておほやけに申てからうしてかい取て奉る
あたひの金すくなしとこくし使に申しかは
わうけいの物くはえてかひたり今こかね五十両
給るへし舟の帰らんに付てたひをくれもし
かねたまはぬ物ならは彼衣のしち返したへと
現代語訳
送り返させなさる時に馬に乗って筑紫からわずか七日で参上してきた。文を見ると言う。「火鼠の皮衣を苦労して人を派遣して求めて差し上げます。今の世にも昔の世にも、この皮はたやすくない（入手困難な）ものでございました。昔、賢い天竺の聖者がこの国に持ち渡って参りまして、西の山寺にあると聞き及んで、朝廷に申し上げて苦労して買い取って差し上げます。代金の金が少ないと、国司が使者に申しました。そこで王慶の物を加えて買いました。今、黄金五十両をいただくべきです。船の帰る時に付けて旅費をください。もし金をくださらない物ならば、かの衣を質に返したい」と。

When he was sent back, he rode his horse and came from Tsukushi in just seven days. Looking at the letter, it said: "I have labored to send people out to seek the fire-rat's fur robe and offer it to you. In both the present world and the ancient world, this hide has been something not easily obtained. Long ago, a wise sage from Tenjiku (India) brought it across to this country, and hearing that it was at a mountain temple in the west, I petitioned the court and with great effort purchased it to offer to you. The provincial governor told the messenger that the payment in gold was insufficient. So I added my own goods to make the purchase. Now I should receive fifty ryō of gold. Please send the travel expenses with the returning ship. If you will not provide the gold, then I wish to return that robe as collateral."
