海に漕ぎ出しなさった。どうしたことか、激しい風が吹いて世界が暗くなり、舟を吹き回して行く。どちらの方角とも分からず、舟を海中に巻き込んでしまいそうに吹き回して、波は船に打ちかかっては巻き入り、雷は落ちかかるように光ってひらめいている。大納言は当惑して「またこのような恐ろしい目に遭うとは。どうなってしまうのだろう」と仰せになる。舵取りが答えて申し上げるには「これまで舟に乗って参りましたが、またこのような恐ろしい目に遭ったことはございません。この舟が海の底に入らないのは、神がお守りくださっているのでしょう。もし幸いに神のお助けがあれば、南海に吹き流されていらっしゃるでしょう。嘆かわしいことに、主君にお仕えして、思いがけず

He rowed out to sea. Somehow, fierce winds began to blow, the world became dark, and the winds blew the boat around. Not knowing which direction they were going, the winds whirled them about as if to drag the boat into the middle of the sea. Waves crashed over the ship and swirled around it, while lightning flashed as if falling upon them. The Great Counselor was bewildered and said, "To encounter such terrifying circumstances again! What will become of us?" The helmsman answered and said, "In all my years of sailing, I have never encountered such terrifying conditions.
