よじのぼる峠（とうげ）に息（いき）をつくたばこ四（よ）方を見渡（みわた）す楽（たのし）草なり
第五に 思案（しあん）工夫（くふう）の問屋（といや）
悪きこと聞（きく）やいかりにもゆる火をたはこに移し吹けふり見よ
過失（くはしつ）
第一に きせるをもつて人の頭を打事
いかにまたはらのたつともきせるにて人のかしらをたゝくへからす
第二に きせるを火箸（ひばし）の代（かはり）に用る事
たつねてもきうに見へすはきせるにて火をはさみてに【或は「よ」ヵ】常（つね）はたしなめ
第三に きせるをくはへなから食物の上を往来（わうらい）する事
なにほとに呑（のみ）たくおもふ時にてもかねてたしなめくひものゝうへ
第四に 吸（すい）がらをあけすてけさゞる事
吸からをあけてけさゞるたはこのみおとし紙にていらぬものなり

火をつけてきをつけさるたはこのみたはこたらけに灰たらけ吹（ふく）
第六に 唾（つば）を火鉢（ひばち）こたつかまどのはいに吐事
はいふきのなき所てはこゝろへてつは吐ものはすこしにてやめ
第七に 唾（つば）をたゝみのしき合（あひ）の間（あいた）にはく事
茶屋宿屋いかにかまはぬ所とてたゝみの間につははかぬもの
第八に きせるをきびしくたゝく事
さよふけてきせるの音（おと）の高（たか）けれはきゝぬるぬす【ママ】やうたてかるらん
第九に はいふきをこすまてすて□【「さ」ヵ】る事
はいふきに虫迄わかす不性（ふしやう）ものよくもたはこをつひて呑かな
第十に はいふきを鼻紙（はなかみ）のかはりにする事
そんてなし水はなかみしあとほせはおとし紙にもなるとこそしれ
現代語訳
険しい峠をよじ登る時に息をつく煙草、四方を見渡す楽しい草である。
第五に 思案工夫の問屋
悪いことを聞いて怒りに燃える火を煙草に移して吹き、その煙を見よ。
過失
第一に 煙管を持って人の頭を打つこと
いかに腹が立つとも、煙管で人の頭を叩いてはならない。
第二に 煙管を火箸の代わりに用いること
急に見つからなくても、煙管で火を挟んでよいとは常々慎むべし。
第三に 煙管をくわえながら食べ物の上を往来すること
どれほど吸いたく思う時でも、あらかじめ慎め、食べ物の上では。
第四に 吸い殻を空けて消さないこと
吸い殻を空けて消さない煙草好き、落とし紙で［消すのは］いらぬものなり。

第五に 吸い殻で畳や衣類を焦がすこと
火をつけて気をつけない煙草好み、煙草だらけに灰だらけ吹く。
第六に 唾を火鉢・炬燵・竈の灰に吐くこと
灰吹きのない所では心得て、唾を吐くものは少しにて止めよ。
第七に 唾を畳の敷き合いの間に吐くこと
茶屋・宿屋、いかに構わぬ所とて、畳の間に唾は吐かぬもの。
第八に 煙管を激しく叩くこと
夜更けて煙管の音の高ければ、聞く寝る人はうるさかろう。
第九に 灰吹きを掃除まで捨て去ること
灰吹きに虫まで湧かす不精者、よくも煙草を続いて呑むかな。
第十に 灰吹きを鼻紙の代わりにすること
そんなことなし、水鼻紙を拭いた後干せば、落とし紙にもなるとこそ知れ。
