現代語訳
箱根の関所で目が三つある大入道を捕らえてきた。禁中の牢に入れておいたが、これは化け物の親玉で三つ目入道という妖怪のことなので、たちまち消えてしまうはずなのだが、それもあまりに手がないと思ったのか、牢を押し破って岩永が組の下番人どもを散々に踏み散らかして逃げ失せた。

今月からは重忠の月番なので、景清の目も重忠と来ては少し目の上のこぶなので、ひとまず目を隠して事を図ろうと、いずれ名医はさまざまにあるが、中でも赤坂の「入目御希望次第」という看板を目当てに尋ねて来て、かくまわれているとの事を重忠が聞き出し、大勢の捕り手を遣わしたところ、この事を察知して目頭は這い抜け出て逃げ失せた。これが目の敵の始まりである。
