現代語訳
世間にお袋のへそくり金という金がある。とんだ涙もろい金で、折々息子が危なっかしい賭け事をすると騙されて釣り出される事がたびたびである。
金：「これ息子、俺が行ってやろうから、もういい加減に博打にしたがいい。屑が出ちゃあ、うまくない」
金：「お袋、私は金へでもいいが、お前の気を小さくして無心にまで賭け値を言うやつさ」
もうもう借りたくないほうへは足踏みもいたしませぬと口には言えど、心には
金：「嘘ばっかり」
【ここより下巻】
金にもいろいろあり、目腐り金というのはいかなる謂れか知らねども、とかく人に嫌がられやすくされる金で「なに一両や二両の目腐り金を目掛けるおとこじゃあねえ」などと打ち付けられる事、この金に限れり。
【番頭】：「お前は勘当、私は番頭、印東ならお寺様、銭湯なら新道へお出なさい」
【息子】：「勘当受けにやあ、今頃はここの内の旦那様だ」
【番頭】：「私も一つ言わさあ、なるまい番頭、人殺さず宝、まあそれを持ってお帰りなされ」
金：「涙の出る金というのは俺のことだ。ああ、ごめんごめん」
【息子】：「なに番頭もすさまじい、死にかかっていやがって、乱闘があきれらあ」
英語訳
In this world, there exists something called "mother's secret savings money." It's quite a tearful kind of money, as it's frequently tricked out whenever the son gets involved in dangerous gambling.
Money: "Look here, son, I'll go for you, so you'd better quit gambling soon. When trash comes out, it's no good."
Money: "Mother, I'm fine with being money, but you make yourself anxious and even mention betting amounts when asking for money."
Though they say with their mouths "I really don't want to borrow anymore," in their hearts:
Money: "Nothing but lies."

There are various types of money, and there's something called "eye-rotting money" - I don't know what the origin of this term is, but it's the kind of money that people easily dislike and look down upon. Phrases like "What man would aim for just one or two ryō of eye-rotting money" are said specifically about this kind of money.
[Head clerk]: "You are disinherited, I am the head clerk. If it's Indō, go to the temple; if it's the public bath, go to Shindō."
[Son]: "If I'm receiving disinheritance, then by now I'd be the master of this house."
[Head clerk]: "Let me say one thing too - you won't become head clerk. Without killing people, there's treasure - well, take that and go home."
Money: "The money that brings tears - that's me. Ah, sorry, sorry."
[Son]: "What, the head clerk is also terrible, acting like he's dying, this brawl is ridiculous."
