現代語訳
よく銭金に目のないものは通りてみな里糖なり。極めてひどい金を使う手合いにして、この金のために苦しむ者数を知らず。同じ奉公者の所に田舎からこの手合いに使われる金は、足を秤にかけ歩くのみにて、何の面白い事もなく行く。先々にては人の苦しみを見かね戻る。十分が来ても、さすがふり切ってもかえられず、金主の方から早く返せと催促にあい、借り主の難儀を見かねて、みな打ち揃って戻る事も気の毒なれば、ゆうゆうと五両の内で一分ずつ先へ返し、まずこれにて金主の催促を緩める。
非道の金主を嫌いて、ついによそへ行き切りにして、それなりに戻らぬ事あるも、使い手によればなり。
高利を貪る非道の人に使われる金は、その人を嫌いて、とかく内にいる事なく、戻るとすぐにまた外へ出て行く。たまたま後に残りし金は、よそへ行く金を羨ましがり、「われを惜しみ嘆く」

♪利息は三月より先取りだから、誰ぞ一人は残らずはなるまい。くじ取りにでもしたがいい
英語訳
Those who are extremely greedy for money are all like sugar merchants when they pass by. They are the type who use money in extremely harsh ways, and countless people suffer because of this money. Money that comes from the countryside to be used by such people in the service of the same masters merely walks around being weighed constantly, with no enjoyment whatsoever. In the places it goes, it cannot bear to see people's suffering and wants to return. Even when the due date arrives, it cannot quite break away and return. When the moneylender demands quick repayment and presses for it, seeing the borrower's distress, all the money feels sorry and wants to return together. So gradually, out of five ryō, they return one bu at a time first, and with this, they ease the moneylender's pressure.
Hating the cruel moneylender, the money sometimes goes elsewhere permanently and never returns, but this depends on how it is used.
Money used by cruel people who greedily pursue high interest rates dislikes such people, and generally does not want to stay inside. As soon as it returns, it goes out again. The money that occasionally remains behind envies the money that goes elsewhere, "grieving and lamenting for itself."
