現代語訳
世間に金持ちと言われて、一生何の面白い事もなく、楽しみもせず、食いたい物も食わず、着たい物も着ず、朝から晩まで金内の者を追い回し、世話ばかり焼いて熱く急かして日を暮らす者がある。大事な所の板の間に米が一つなお（そのまま）してあるのは良けれども、よそからもらった酒を封を切らずに溜めるつもり。酒屋の通い（つけ）も運はなくて、もらった魚を売ってやる。通いなれば物前（代金）には欠くあっちから銭を取る算段。金内の者には暖かな餅もかがせず（食べさせず）、切りを知らねば恥をかいた例もなく、一生すたすたと足のすりこぎになるほど金に使われている。
♪そして年寄りが御奉行に願って民る（訴える）者か、寺参りも一文ずつの費えだ。
♪この親父はそんな事で間尺に合う者か。これからすぐに歩きながら休んで芝の屋敷へ年貢の催促をしたら、戻りに深川の地代も掛け合うし、ちょっと回り高くついでに新宿の肥え代も受け取って、戻りがけに馬の沓か何か拾ってきたが良い。

Those called wealthy in the world live their entire lives without any enjoyment, never having fun, not eating what they want to eat, not wearing what they want to wear, chasing around their household members from morning to night, only worrying about affairs and pressing them urgently to spend their days.
