現代語訳
床花（遊廓）にやった小判もみな、それぞれに片付く。
♪これ貴様は、出部行（でぶぎょう）さんに支度をするが、どこへ行くつもりだ。
♪おらあ、花魁の里へ行くは、どこか菅（巣鴨）の方だと言ったっけが、なんでも遠方もねえところだと聞いたが、今夜中に行かないけりゃあならねえとさ。おらが敵きの世の中だから。［読み道は］［ちっと綾］まりの筋だ
♪これ、必ずおいらが行く先を言いっこなしたよ。憎まれちゃあならねえ。
♪おらは又田町の縫箔屋へ行くのだ。そうした。
♪まあ、箪笥はいって一寝入りという幕。ぬしよう。

始末法（しまつほう）の柿の種が、誰も頼みもせぬに、役を拵えてやろうの「いや月見はどうだ初朔の当てがなくば」とうとも「少々」などと見栄坊の出放題に、こいつはうまいとわざとその注文の方へは割打ちをかけ、主には成るたけ「何にも言いやす目へ」と思っていますと、飴を舐らせておいて、物前に御酒しみも顧みず、無心を言ってやった所が、大平の口があるゆえ「いや」とは言われず、それなりに返事もせず、行きもせねば又尋ねによこす。本の小事なしに十両の所へ三両も封じてよこす。もらいながら「おやばからしい」と言って、その金を打っ付ける。これらが死に金を使ううちなり。
♪小判、思い入れ打っ付けられ、死んだようになっている。
「花魁にこうなけられちゃあ、恥ずかしらねえ。幕だ。」
♪思いなしか、この文か、小物かけてあるようた。
英語訳
The koban that went to the pleasure quarters (tokohana) are all settled in their respective ways.
♪Hey you, you're preparing for the fat magistrate, but where do you intend to go?
♪I'm going to the courtesan's district. I think it was somewhere in the Sugamo direction, and I heard it's not too far away. I have to go there tonight. It's a hostile world for me. [The reading path is] [a bit intricate] like the lines of a mari ball.
♪Hey, we definitely agreed not to tell where I'm going. I don't want to be hated.
♪I'm going to the embroidery shop in Tamachi. That's settled.
♪Well, getting into the chest of drawers for a nap - that's the end of this act, master.
【From here begins the middle volume】
A penny-pinching person, without anyone asking, takes on a role saying "Well, how about moon-viewing? If there's no prospect for the first of the month," and so on with "a little" - such vain showing off. "This is good," he thinks, and deliberately gives short change on those orders, while to the master he thinks "I'll say nothing to his eyes." After letting him lick candy and ignoring even sake stains in front of the courtesan, when he made his request for money, since there was a generous response, he couldn't say "no." Without replying or going, when asked again, he sends money. For a trivial matter, he sends three ryo sealed when ten ryo was requested. While receiving it, he says "Oh, how foolish" and wastes that money. These are among those who use dead money.

"To be treated this way by a courtesan, how shameless. The curtain falls."
