【見出し】夾竹桃（きょうちくとう）
六月土用前より花開き、七八月まで咲く。花の形は八重桃のようで、また外側に海棠花のような赤い花托がある。またその下に青い本台がある。花の色は薄紅で白い斑入りがあり、また花弁の中心に白い切れ込みがある。蕊の中心に三筋、木綿糸をねじったようなものがある。また葉は女竹のように細長く、艶があり厚いことはユズリハのようである。葉は三方につき、枝は三方に出す。木の節立ちは竹のように節が葉ごとにある。花の節立ちは赤桐のようである。木の高さは大小がある。大きいものの高さは六七尺余りで、小さいものの高さは四五寸だが花は咲く。

叢生薔薇に類似し、棘がある。四五月に白い花を開く。大きさは二三寸で色は大白、蕊は長く同じく白色。

香りは黄色で多く、香気が甚だ高い花である。花の形は芍薬のように一重である。葉は三葉で少し長く艶がある。花の花托、葉の茎、木ともに棘がある。花托と葉の茎の棘は毛虫のように、木の棘は繁く、これをもって垣根を作る。また一名を枝垂れ薔薇ともいう。

宝鐸草に似て花は下向きに咲く。花の色は薄紫で、葉は虎の尾に似ている。葉は艶があり茎に節がある。長さ三尺ばかり。五六月に花がある。本名は沙参。崖壁の間にある。

葉は草藤に似ている。花の節立ちは八代草に似て伸び、花の形は桔梗のようで色は薄紫、また白もある。丈は二三尺ばかり。花は五月中旬にある。

【Heading】Oleander (kyōchikutō)
Flowers bloom from before the summer doyō period in June, continuing to bloom until July and August. The flower shape resembles double peach blossoms, and on the outside there is a red receptacle like that of flowering crabapple. Below that is a blue base. The flower color is light crimson with white variegation, and there are white serrations in the center of the petals. In the center of the stamens are three strands resembling twisted cotton thread. The leaves are long and narrow like female bamboo, glossy and thick like those of Daphniphyllum. The leaves attach in three directions, and branches extend in three directions. The wood's node structure has joints at each leaf like bamboo. The flower's node structure resembles that of paulownia. The tree height varies in size. Large ones reach six to seven shaku in height, while small ones are four to five sun tall but still flower.

Similar to clustered roses, with thorns. Opens white flowers in April and May. Size is two to three sun, color is pure white, stamens are long and also white in color.

The fragrance is yellow and abundant, a flower with extremely high fragrance. The flower shape is single like that of peony. The leaves are trifoliate, somewhat long with gloss. The flower receptacle, leaf stems, and wood all have thorns. The thorns on the receptacle and leaf stems are like caterpillars, while the wood's thorns are dense. This is used to make hedges. It is also called weeping rose by another name.

Leaves resemble wild wisteria. The flower's growth pattern resembles yatsushirosō and extends upward. Flower shape is like bellflower, color is light purple, and white varieties also exist. Height is about two to three shaku. Flowers appear in mid-May.
