番所より唐船の様子をみれは戌亥の方をさして
出帆せしが一両日過て遠沖にも帆かげ見へさりし満
帆せしと見へし
一 其後唐船壱艘又又慈嶋よりは酉戌之方に十二三里
程も沖に相見る此唐船は頃日白嶋前に而船手より（朱字 り）き
びしきめに逢「横に二文字 し船」にても無し新来とも不相見当分去る五月廿
六日山家沖に而打払に逢し唐船可成とそ船手より之目
利なり上沖に参めがらざる内に可打払と評定し八月
二日日和終日能沖見を出し見分するに八九里程
も可有あちこちと漂流す夜に入なば又嶋近くに

入小船頭沖見するに昼よりは乗上り慈嶋より（朱字 り）五六里
程沖に漂泊す先案之内に唐船引入しと悦夫より

とも雪見すかしより見ゆる程に押付たり例之ことく
なりを静め夜の明るを待はく良ありて東も志ら（朱字 ら）み
渡りけれは最早打懸可然時分と小早船筒口を
揃え廻り打に壱艘より二放宛打懸る唐船はうか（朱字 か）
うかと嶋近くに漂泊し思ひかけなく鉄砲を打かけ

番所より唐船の様子を見れば、戌亥の方角を指して出帆したが、一両日過ぎて遠沖にも帆影が見えなくなり、満帆で去ったと見える。
一 その後唐船一艘がまた慈島より酉戌の方角に十二、三里ほど沖に見える。この唐船は先日白島前で船手より厳しい目に遭った船でもなく、新来とも見えない。おそらく去る五月二十六日山家沖で打ち払いに遭った唐船であろうと船手より目利きがあった。上沖に参る前に打ち払うべきと評定し、八月二日、日和が終日良く、沖見を出して見分すると八、九里ほどもあろうか、あちこちと漂流している。夜に入れば又島近くに

寄ると推察し、同日暮れ頃より各々乗船し、島外れに待機した。夜に入り小船頭が沖見をすると、昼よりは近寄り、慈島より五、六里ほど沖に漂泊している。予想の通りに唐船が引き入れられたと喜び、それより亥の下刻頃より静かに船を押し出した。しばらくして唐船に夜中なれども透かし見より見える程に押し付けた。例の如く波を静め、夜の明けるのを待っていたが、良い頃合いで東も白み始めたので、最早打ちかかるべき時分と小早船が筒口を揃え、回り打ちに一艘より二発ずつ打ちかけた。唐船はうかうかと島近くに漂泊し、思いがけなく鉄砲を打ちかけられ、うわうざわと船中を走り回り騒動している様子である。

When observing the Chinese ship from the guard station, it departed sailing toward the northwest direction, but after a day or two passed, no sail could be seen even in the distant offing, appearing to have departed under full sail.
One [incident]: Later, another Chinese ship was sighted about twelve to thirteen ri offshore in the west-northwest direction from Jishima. This Chinese ship was neither the one that had previously suffered harsh treatment from our naval forces off Shirashima, nor did it appear to be newly arrived. The naval forces' lookouts determined it was likely the Chinese ship that had encountered our repelling forces off Yamaga on May 26th. It was decided to repel it before it could proceed to the upper offing. On August 2nd, with fine weather lasting all day, they sent out lookouts for reconnaissance and found [the ship] drifting here and there at a distance of about eight to nine ri. Surmising that it would approach closer to the island after nightfall,

each [boat] embarked around sunset that same day and waited at the island's edge. After nightfall, when the boat captains conducted offshore reconnaissance, [the Chinese ship] had moved closer than during the day, anchored about five to six ri offshore from Jishima. Rejoicing that the Chinese ship had been drawn in as anticipated, they quietly pushed out their boats from around the latter part of the hour of the Boar. After some time, they approached close enough to see the Chinese ship through the darkness, even at night. As usual, they calmed the waves and waited for dawn. When the time was right and the eastern sky began to whiten, determining it was the proper time to attack, the small fast boats aligned their gun barrels and fired in rotation, with each vessel firing two shots. The Chinese ship was drifting carelessly near the island, and being unexpectedly fired upon with guns, [the crew] ran about frantically throughout the ship in great commotion.
