泰は長崎に遊んで、家製の松煙煤を以て商船の帰るのに託し、漢土に送り、徽州の官工程丹木がこれを製造するのである。
○油煙 本邦で油煙墨を製することは、中世南都興福寺の二諦坊持仏堂の灯の煤が屋根に薫り滞ったものを取って膠に和して造る。これが南都油煙墨の始まりと言われている。或いは空海が中華より帰朝の後、南都の人に教えて造らせたとも言われている。しかしながら東野の語であって書伝に載せず、凡そ世俗はともすれば空海を以て事の起源の話の種とする。皆附会の説で信ずるに足りない。薬用には松煙を上とし、油煙を次とする。
○二諦坊墨 これは南都油煙墨創造の古法を以て造ったものである。長さ三寸、幅八分、その形は世に所謂油煙形と称するものにして、表に蚊竜、背に李家煙の三字を篆書にて記している。
○延喜図書寮墨 長さ五寸、幅八分。これは即ち延喜式に出る所の法を以て製したものである。
○御覧大墨 元泰が製する所の、径り一尺六寸、厚さ二寸五分、重さ二十二斤、その形は円である。この墨は世に稀なる大墨であるとて、昔年禁庭へ召された時、永田貞柳が「月ならで雲の上までスミのぼる是はいかなるゆえんなるらん」と詠んだのは、即ちこの墨である。

○Oil soot ink The production of oil soot ink in our country began in medieval times at Nanto (Nara), where soot from lamps in the Buddha hall of Nitai-bo at Kofuku-ji Temple, which had accumulated and adhered to the roof tiles, was collected, mixed with glue, and formed into ink. This is said to be the beginning of Nanto oil soot ink. Some say that Kukai, after returning from China, taught the people of Nanto to make it. However, this is merely local lore not recorded in written traditions. Generally, common people tend to attribute the origins of various matters to Kukai as topics of conversation. These are all fabricated theories not worthy of belief. For medicinal use, pine soot is considered superior, with oil soot being secondary.
○Nitai-bo ink This is made using the ancient method of creating Nanto oil soot ink. It is three sun long and eight bu wide. Its form is what the world calls the "oil soot shape," with "Mosquito Dragon" inscribed on the front and the three characters "Li Family Smoke" written in seal script on the back.
○Engi Bureau of Books ink Five sun long and eight bu wide. This is manufactured according to the methods recorded in the Engi Shiki.
○Imperial Viewing Great Ink Manufactured by Gentai, it has a diameter of one shaku six sun, thickness of two sun five bu, and weighs twenty-two kin. Its shape is circular. This ink being a great ink rare in the world, when it was summoned to the imperial court in former years, Nagata Sadayanagi composed the poem: "Not being the moon, yet rising above the clouds - what could be the reason for this?" This refers to precisely this ink.
