○懐妊（くわいにん）之（の）総論（そうろん）
それ女（をんな）の子（こ）をはらむは。天地自然（てんちしぜん）の常（つね）なれば。あめつ
ち開（ひら）けはじまりしより定（さだま）りたること也。易（ゑき）-経（きやうに）。天（てん）-地（ち）絪（いん）-
緼（うんとして）。万（ばん）-物（ぶつ）化（くわ）-醇（じゆんし）。男（なん）-女（によ）構（かまへて）＿レ精（せいを）。万（ばん）-物（ぶつ）化（くわ）-生（せい）すると見えたり。
これ人（ひと）に男女（なんによ）あるは。天（てん）に陰陽（いんやう）あるがごとし。天（てん）は上（かみ）にあ
りて男（おとこ）のくらゐ也。地（ち）は下（しも）にありて女（をんな）のかたち也。天（てん）はほどこ
し。地（ち）は生（しやう）ずるの理（り）なれば。夫婦（ふうふ）和合（わがふ）して子（こ）を生（しやう）ずる

初年にすでに世に広めたが、年数を経ないうちに、旧版がことごとく焼失してしまった。この度『母子草』と改めて、再び印刷に付す。名前は異なるが意味は同じであることを、読む人が疑問に思うかもしれないので、ここで説明する。

○妊娠の総論
そもそも女性が子を宿すのは、天地自然の常であるから、天地が開け始まった時から定まったことである。易経に「天地絪緼として、万物化醇し、男女精を構えて、万物化生す」と見える。これは人に男女があるのは、天に陰陽があるのと同じである。天は上にあって男の位である。地は下にあって女の形である。天は施し、地は生ずるという理であるから、夫婦が和合して子を生むのである。

○General Discussion of Pregnancy
The fact that women conceive children is a natural constant of heaven and earth, so it has been determined since heaven and earth first opened. In the Book of Changes it states: "Heaven and earth intermingle in harmony, and all things are transformed and purified; male and female unite their essence, and all things are transformed and born." That there are male and female among humans is like there being yin and yang in heaven. Heaven is above and represents the male position. Earth is below and represents the female form. Heaven gives and earth produces - this is the principle by which husband and wife unite in harmony to bear children.
