産椅子には益がなく、かえって害がある。また産椅子がない家では、櫃や俵などで三方を囲い、産婦をその中に座らせ、足が伸びないようにと、また前の一方を囲んで、一七夜の間は堅く制限し、心地よく眠らせずにいる。これを産後の保養と思うのは、大きな誤りである。私が思うに、近世では産後に足が曲がって伸びないもの、腰が痛んで背中が曲がるものがある。これは多くの場合、産後に長く正座して、悪血が滞り、新しい血が巡らないためであろう。下の巻に産婦を寝かせる方法を図示する。合わせて見るべきである。

六 出産の時に用いるべき薬のこと
出産に臨んで用いる薬を催生と名づけるため、薬を用いれば早く産まれるだろうと思い、ひたすら薬を用いて出産を急ぐ人がある。これは出産が自然の理であることを知らないためである。体が強くして、他の悩みがないものは、薬を用いなくても害はない。もし体が弱いものは、薬を用いてその気血を助けるべきである。芎帰湯が良い。
