世の人々の多くは読書を好まず、医師もまた十分に教え諭すことができないため、妊娠・出産の理を理解せず、適切な時期の養生法に反することをしてしまう。そのため動もすれば逆子や横位となり、ああ嘆かわしいことに、夜中に苦しみ叫ぶ声を上げる。これを痛ましく思わない者がいるだろうか。播磨の児島尚善は常にこれを憐れに思い、諸賢の精要な部分を集めて、これを平仮名で綴り、三巻に整理した。胎教・産前・催生・護児・産後の様々な病気について、すべて備えて漏らすところがない。村の産婆や里の婦人でも読みやすく理解しやすい。

もしその人が家庭で普段からこの書を学習していれば、緊急の時にも心配や恐れることなく、出産のたびに無事安産となり、必ず喜びに満ちた祝いがあることであろう。浪華の木世粛千里が手紙を送って私の言葉を求めてきた。私はその俗世を救おうとする慈悲深い心と、産科の宝典が世に広まることを大いに賞賛し、ついに辞退することなく、その冒頭に序文を書いて、尚善の教化を賛助する功績を表彰するものである。

Most people in the world do not enjoy reading books, and physicians are also unable to provide sufficient instruction and guidance. Therefore, they remain ignorant of the principles of pregnancy and childbirth, and act contrary to proper methods of seasonal care and nourishment. Consequently, they frequently encounter breech births and transverse presentations, and—how lamentable—cry out in agony during the night. Who would not feel pity for such suffering? Kojima Naoyoshi of Harima, constantly moved by compassion for this situation, compiled the essential points of various wise men's works and wrote them in kana script, organizing them into three volumes. Covering prenatal education, prenatal care, labor induction, infant care, and various postpartum ailments, everything is included without omission. Even village midwives and local women can easily read and understand it.

If people regularly study this book at home, they will have nothing to worry about or fear during emergencies. Each birth will be successful, and there will surely be joyous celebrations. Kiyo Shukusenri of Naniwa sent a letter requesting my words. I greatly praise his compassionate heart in rescuing the common people and the circulation of this obstetric treasure in the world.
