唯に蹲居して雨露を遁るのみにして殊に
迫隘なり故に炊煮の事は晴雨共屋外にして是
をなす穂猥哩名滞留の訳夷皆如此といふ

ただ蹲って座って雨露をしのぐだけで、特に狭苦しい。そのため炊事は晴雨を問わず屋外で行う。このような粗末な名ばかりの滞在場所について、アイヌの人々は皆このようだと言う。
一、軟弱なアイヌ船であるから、風波のために破損してしまうことを恐れて、毎夜岸上に引き上げる。往路の道中、一夜も水上に浮かべておくことはない。これもまた困苦の一つと言えよう。
同三日、船を出してトウシボー、泊湾、トヱカクラカローなどと称する所を過ぎ、ムシホーと称する所に至って泊まった。
同四日、この所で船中の雑具を残して取り置き、空船にして地上に引き上げるということがあって、その日はこの所で過ごした。

Note: Since the Ainu boats are fragile, fearing they might be damaged by wind and waves, we pull them up onto shore every night. Throughout the outward journey, we never left them floating on the water for even one night. This too can be said to be one of our hardships.

Note: Along the coastline from Kamkata to this place, a distance of about six ri, there are mostly places with dangerous rocky promontories. Particularly where there are jutting capes, there are tidal currents everywhere and the waves swirl violently, truly like whirlpools. Because of this, places where boats can approach are rare - only the three places mentioned above: Rokamachī, Arukoye, and Mushiho.
