地洀漁も又なきもあらすといへ共大抵遠浅に
して磯船たにも進退する事かたし
一此辺よりヤンコト何を経てテレンに至るの間其
地は悉く塵土にして樹木の繁茂する事
からふと島の地味に異なる事なし故に書
下地勢樹木の事異状あるにあらされは論
し出す事なし
一此所朝蚊の多きこと殊に糠粃を散するか如し
人の面目手足に集附しく肉色を見さるに
至る然れ共昼の中のみにして夜陰其前

同五日にハ昨日明置たる空船を盪挽し其程
二拾余ても有ける山路を越タバマチーと称せる小川
に亘り船をは川中に浮め置帰り来て荷物何
くさと負担し夷共に其所に運送り其日一日
中往返のみして夕陽の頃漸く船に積終りけれハ
其夜は此所にとまりぬ
一東鞋の属夷ハ論なく其地東南の海岸四百
余里の間に住める諸韃種の夷人テレンに至て
交易する者ハ悉く此所に陸上挽船する事皆

その土地で漁をすることもできないわけではないが、大抵遠浅になっていて磯船でさえも進退することが困難である。
一、この辺りからヤンコトなどを経てテレンに至るまでの間、その土地はすべて肥沃な土壌で、樹木が繁茂することは樺太島の地質と異なることはない。そのため以下、地勢や樹木について異常なことがあるのでなければ特に論じることはしない。
一、この所では朝の蚊の多いことが特にひどく、糠を撒き散らしたようである。人の顔や手足に群がり集まって、肌の色が見えなくなるほどである。しかしながら昼間だけのことで、夜間はその存在を知らない。
同五日には、昨日空にしておいた空船を引き摺り、その距離二十町余りもあった山路を越え、タバマチーと称する小川まで運び、船をその川中に浮かべて置き、戻って来て荷物を幾つも背負い、アイヌたちとともにその所に運搬し、その日一日中往復ばかりして、夕方の頃ようやく船に積み終えたので、その夜はこの所に泊まった。
一、東蝦夷に属するアイヌは言うまでもなく、その地域である東南の海岸四百余里の間に住んでいる諸種族のアイヌ人でテレンに至って交易する者は、すべてこの所で陸上に船を引き上げることは皆

Note: At this place, the abundance of mosquitoes in the morning is particularly severe, like scattered rice bran. They swarm and cluster on people's faces, hands, and feet until the skin color cannot be seen. However, this is only during the daytime; at night their presence is unknown.
On the same fifth day, we dragged the empty boat that had been emptied the day before over a mountain path of more than twenty chō, crossed to a small stream called Tabamachī, floated the boat in the stream, returned to carry various loads of baggage with the Ainu to transport them to that location. We spent the entire day going back and forth, and finally finished loading the boat around evening, so we stayed at this place that night.
