（境の義は）何と申す処にございましょうや、（と問われましたので）、年々申し来た通りのことにつき、境の義は先（以前）より野田■・右（の）細谷を限りとして立ち入り申してございます。もっとも三ヶ所の内においても■えも先々より馬を通用（通行）仕り申し候えば、平津守様へは大方（おおかた）通用仕り、馬の義は一切合（全く）登り（通り）申さないと挨拶（返答）仕り申し候えば、何とぞ只今より馬を通用させてくれるよう申されましたが、その義は相成らない（できない）と申し候。

一、（以前より）立ち入り来た申した証拠として（自らの）あたし（私ども）を申し立て、立ち入るべしと■して、四十（人）より■■■を引き下ろし、日用（日常の用に）足し申し候などと申し上げましたが、当山に限らず、長三ヶ（所）・兼左衛津（兼左衛門）かねより木・草を引き下ろし候所を、（己らも同様にと）羨ましいと申し候（こと）。
一、南新田村が申し上げますには、山地・元村に立木（たちき）の林がございます趣（よし）を申し上げましたが、立木の林の義は一切ございません。
右の通り返答書を仕り、差し上げ申し候。

[Continuing from the previous page — regarding the boundary matter:] "What sort of place do you take this to be?" [they asked]. [We replied that,] as has been stated year after year, the boundary for entry has from before been limited to Noda ■ and the aforementioned Hosoya (Hosotani). Moreover, even within the three locations, horses have been brought through from time immemorial — they have been brought through generally as far as Hiratsu-no-kami-sama [a local deity or guardian], but horses have never at all passed [beyond that point]. When we gave this reply, [the Minami-Shinden men] requested that from now on they be permitted to pass with horses as well. However, we stated that such a thing could not be permitted.

Item: As evidence of their having had access [to the area], [Minami-Shinden Village] put forward their own claims, stating that they should be permitted entry, and that [they had been coming to] bring down [goods/timber] — forty [people?] bringing things down — sufficient for daily use, and so forth. However, not only on this mountain but [also at] the locations of Chōsan and Kanezaemon, [others] have been bringing down wood and grass, and [the people of Minami-Shinden] stated [they found it] enviable [that they should be permitted to do the same].
Item: Minami-Shinden Village stated that there is standing timber and forest in the mountain land belonging to the original village (moto-mura), but [we affirm that] there is absolutely no standing timber forest [there].
In accordance with the above, we have prepared and submitted this written reply.
