一　羽織・小袖は紋付きに限定すべきではなく、丹後嶋・郡内嶋・絹つむぎその他これに類する質素なものであれば、勝手次第に着用してよいこと

一　袴も右の衣服に準じること
　　ただし手持ちの品については勝手次第のことですが、可能な限り華美にならないよう、見苦しくない程度であれば少しも構わず、なるべく粗服を用いるよう心得として申し付けること

英語訳

1. Haori jackets and kosode robes need not be limited to those with family crests; plain materials such as Tango-shima, Gunai-shima, silk tsumugi, and other similar modest fabrics may be worn at one's discretion.

1. Hakama trousers should follow the same guidelines as the above clothing.
However, regarding items already in one's possession, these may be used at discretion, but as much as possible they should not be extravagant. As long as they are not unsightly, there is no problem at all, and instructions should be given to use plain clothing as much as possible.

Regarding the written directive issued to Lord Matsudaira Etchū-no-kami and Lord Rokkaku Echizen-no-kami on the first day of the fourth month:
