諸家の留守居の件については、いつも幕府から世話をしていただいていることなので、それぞれの主人からもきちんと申し付けておくことになっているけれども、だんだんと転任などがあって絶えず新任の者もおり、その上年数も経てば、自然と仰せ出されたことを守ることが薄くなってしまう。既に今回も心得違いの者が多く、またもや世話をかけることになったのは、全く留守居どもが不注意だったためで、主人の名前まで出すことになり、恐れ入ることである。

Regarding the matter of the rusui (caretakers) of various houses, since the bakufu always provides guidance on this matter, each master has been instructed to give proper orders to them. However, as there are gradual transfers and constantly new appointees, and as years pass, naturally the observance of what has been commanded becomes lax. Already in this instance as well, there were many who misunderstood their duties, and once again causing trouble - this is entirely due to the carelessness of the rusui, and it is shameful that even the master's name has been brought up in this matter.
