抱き付ば、松寿驚き、衣を振（ふる）ふて起上る、娘今は
恨のあまり、難面（つれなき）人を生（いか）しは置じ、同じ冥（めい）
途（ど）へともなはんと、猟具（りやうぐ）を取て飛懸る、松寿は
魂（たましい）九天（きうてん）に飛、夢路（ゆめぢ）をたどる心地して、足を空
に逃出すを、何国まてもと追来る、其早き事
飛鳥の如し、松寿やう〳〵逃延て、此山の
曲（くま）にある、万寿寺といふ寺に駈入、しか〳〵の
由を物語れは、住持 普徳（ふとく）といふ僧は、行徳（きやうとく）
いみじく、才覚ある僧なりければ、すなはち
松寿を鐘楼（しゆろう）へともなひ、大鐘（おほがね）の内に伏（ふさ）しめ、
三人の徒弟（でし）をして、其 傍辺（かたへ）を看守（まもら）しむ、とばかり
有て彼姫、姿あらはにしたひ来り、三人の僧に問、
何れも知ざる体にもてなし、戯（たはむれ）嬲（なぶ）りて帰らしめ
んとす、娘は松寿を求得ず、狂気の如く泣叫（なきさけ）び、
猶も行衛を尋んと、門外へ駈出れは、僧共今は心
易しと、件（くだん）の鐘を退（のけ）んとす、其物音、山彦（やまびこ）に
響（ひゞ）きければ、女早くも馳戻（かけもど）り、髪振乱し形（きやう）
相（さう）変り、恋しき人は此鐘の内にこそ有（ある）らんなれ
と、鐘の内へぞ入にける、住僧驚き、諸僧と俱に、
鐘を繞（めぐ）りてこれを祈（いの）る、行法（きやうほう）の験（しるし）にや、かねは

抱きついたところ、松寿は驚き、衣を振り払って立ち上がった。娘は今や恨みの余り、「つれない人を生かしてはおかない、同じ冥土へと道連れにしよう」と、猟具を取って飛びかかった。松寿は魂が天に飛ぶような心地で、夢の中をたどるような気持ちで、必死に逃げ出すのを、どこまでもと追いかけてくる。その速いことは飛鳥のようであった。松寿はようやく逃げ延びて、この山の奥にある万寿寺という寺に駆け込み、これこれの事情を物語ると、住職の普徳という僧は、徳行が立派で、才覚のある僧であったので、すぐに松寿を鐘楼へと連れて行き、大鐘の内に隠させ、三人の弟子に、その周辺を見張らせた。しばらくして、あの娘が、姿を現して追いかけて来て、三人の僧に尋ねたが、皆知らない様子で取り繕い、からかってあしらって帰らせようとした。娘は松寿を見つけることができず、狂気のように泣き叫び、なおも行方を尋ねようと門外へ駆け出したので、僧たちは今は安心だと、件の鐘を退けようとした。その物音が山彦に響いたので、女は素早く駆け戻り、髪を振り乱し姿が変わって、「恋しい人はこの鐘の内にいるに違いない」と、鐘の内へと入っていった。住僧は驚き、諸僧と共に、鐘を囲んでこれを祈った。修行の効験であろうか、鐘は

When she embraced him, Shōju was startled and shook off his clothes as he stood up. The daughter, now filled with resentment, said "I will not let this heartless person live; I shall take him with me to the same underworld," and grabbed hunting tools to attack him. Shōju felt as if his soul had flown to the nine heavens, as if following a dream path, and fled desperately while she pursued him relentlessly. Her speed was like that of a flying bird. Shōju barely managed to escape and rushed into a temple called Manjuji located in the depths of this mountain. When he told his story, the head priest, a monk named Futoku, was a person of excellent virtue and great wisdom, so he immediately led Shōju to the bell tower, hid him inside the large temple bell, and had three disciples keep watch around the area. After a while, that girl appeared in pursuit and questioned the three monks, but they all pretended not to know anything and tried to tease and dismiss her to make her go away.
