現代語訳
『万国新話』亜細亜の一部として既に
刊行されており、『琉球談』もその中に収録されているが、韓国・
琉球・蝦夷は久しく
本朝に属しており、その国事についても既にあらかた熟知している故に、
刊行の際に除外した。ところが書肆が重ねて請うので、
その初稿を刊行することとなり、私に序文を求めてきた。しかし
国の大まかな体制や民事の細かな事柄については詳しく
書中に記されており、私がさらに何を言うことがあろうか。ただこの言葉を記して
序文とする。寛政庚戌の秋九月

has already been published as part of "Bankoku Shinwa" (New Tales of All Nations), and "Ryukyu Tales" was also included in it, but Korea,
Ryukyu, and Ezo have long
belonged to our Imperial Court, and their national affairs were already roughly familiar to us, so
they were excluded at the time of publication. However, the bookseller repeatedly requested it,
so the original draft was decided to be published, and they asked me for a preface. But
the general framework of the country and detailed civil affairs are thoroughly
described in the book, so what more could I say? I merely record these words as
