現代語訳
それより蟹は例の柿の種を山の上へ持ち、
「早く早く育たずば、はさみで切るぞ」
と言う。草木は心がないといえども、
一夜のうちに大木となり、
柿がたくさん実った。
沢蟹はさみの助は困った。
柿を取ろうと思えども、
枝へ登ることができず、
ただ眺めているだけだった。
猿がこの所へ駆けてきて、
「枝へ登って取ってやろう」
と言った。
熟した柿は取って食べ、
渋い柿は投げつけた。
【猿たちの台詞】
「これは山分けだぞ」
「八兵衛、うまいうまい、
うまいのを食べたぞ」
「うまいのはこちらへ」
「蟹の渋い奴め、
ええい、渋いのう」

英語訳
From then on, the crab took the aforementioned persimmon seed to the mountaintop and said, "If you don't grow quickly, I'll cut you with my claws!" Though plants and trees have no heart, it became a large tree in one night, and many persimmons ripened.
The river crab Hasami-no-suke was troubled. Though he wanted to pick the persimmons, he could not climb up to the branches and could only gaze at them.
A monkey came running to this place and said, "I'll climb the branches and pick them for you." He picked and ate the ripe persimmons, but threw the unripe ones at the crab.

"This is to be shared equally!"
"Hachibe, delicious, delicious! I've eaten the tasty ones!"
"The good ones are for us!"
"That stubborn crab - ugh, so sour!"
