かたまりし国なるゆへ。鉄臭（かなくさ）くして武（ぶ）を好（このみ）
男子（なんし）を尊（たつと）ぶ。よし原はかまぼこのしたゞ
りゆへなまぐさくして。中央（ちうわう）に肴市場（さかないちば）
あり。尤女を尊ぶ。これ日本とはお月さまと
すつぽん程の違（ちがひ）なれば。お月さまの月の
字（じ）と。泥亀（すつほん）のほんの字をとりて月本国
と名付たりといふ。これを又五ヶ国に

現代語訳
固まった国であるゆえに、鉄臭くして武を好み、男子を尊ぶ。吉原は蒲鉾の滴りゆえになまぐさくして、中央に肴市場あり。もっとも女を尊ぶ。これ日本とはお月様とスッポン程の違いなれば、お月様の「月」の字と、泥亀（スッポン）の「本」の字をとりて「月本国」と名付けたりという。これをまた五ヶ国に分けている。その五ヶ国というは、

Because it is a land formed from congealed matter, it smells of iron, favors martial pursuits, and holds men in high esteem. Yoshiwara, being formed from the drippings of the kamaboko, smells of raw fish, and accordingly there is a fish market at its center. Above all, it reveres women. Since this differs from Japan as much as the moon differs from a soft-shelled turtle, they took the character "tsuki" (moon) from "o-tsuki-sama" (the honorable moon) and the character "hon" (origin/base) from "suppon" (soft-shelled turtle, written as 泥亀, lit. "mud turtle") and named it "Tsukimoto-koku" (the Land of Moon Origin). Furthermore, this is divided into five provinces. Those five provinces are:
△E-machi Province (currently 15 districts) △Ni-machi Province (currently 11 districts)
△Kado-machi Province (currently 11 districts) △Kyō-machi Province (currently 17 districts)
△Shin-machi Province (currently 10 districts)
○ The two provinces of E-machi and Ni-machi are called "Emae" (Front E) and "Ego" (Rear E)
The two provinces of Kyō-machi and Shin-machi are called "Kyōmae" (Front Kyō) and "Kyōgo" (Rear Kyō)
