月本国風土
此国の風土（ふうど）いにしえより諸書（しよしよ）にあらはし
たれば。今こと新らしくいふに及ばずと
いへども。其あらましをいはゞ。男をいやしめ
女を尊ひ。昼をむだにして夜を用ひ。男の
両婦にま見ゆるを禁（きん）し。女は放（ほしいまゝ）に男に
あひ。婚姻（こんいん）の盃（さかづき）は男より初め。座 席（せき）は皆
女を上￣ミとす。これ陰国（いんこく）のいさをしにして。
日を茶にし月を翫（もてあそ）ぶのしるし。月本の
本￣ン意なるべし。十五十三の二夜の月見を以

五ヶ国に一人つゝの主有。満月（まんげつ）の徳を表して
夕上王といふ。後の人 誤（あやま）りて今は名主さまと

この国の風土は、昔から様々な書物に記されているので、今さら新しく述べる必要もないが、その概要を言うならば、男を卑しめ女を尊び、昼を無駄にして夜を重んじる。男が両親に顔を見せることを禁じ、女は自由に男と会う。婚姻の盃は男から始め、座席は皆女を上位とする。これは陰国の習わしであって、昼を茶とし月を愛でるしるしである。月本の本来の意味であろう。十五夜と十三夜の二夜の月見をもって当国第一の重要な日とするのも、国の名によるものであろう。
