国（ごく）の人と同しからず
○鉄炮（てつほう）島は伏見潮の末○羅生門（らじやうもん）島は二（に）
町国（てうめこく）の末。角町国（すみてうこく）より新町国（しんてうこく）へかけたる
島也。江口の遊女（ゆうぢよ）普賢菩薩（ふげんぼさつ）とあらはれし
時。乗（の）りたる舟（ふね）変（へん）じて此島となる。江口の諷（うたひ）に。#1
舟（ふね）は百（ひやく）ぞうとなりつゝと有。油（あぶら）の払底（ふつてい）なる
国にて。一ツ行燈（あんどう）を二 軒（けん）にてつかふと云。人物（じんぶつ）は
皆 五体不具（ごたいふぐ）にして折（おり）介をとり食ふ。
先￣ツ鼻（はな）から先￣キへ喰（く）ふといへり。五州の人も
これを恐（おそ）れてよりつかず。此島の人 白粉（おしろい）を粧（よぞほ）
ふこと壁土（かべつち）のごとし。背中（せなか）をたゝけば白（おし）
粉（ろい）こつぽり〳〵とへげて。木舞（こまひ）竹のごとき
頬骨（ほうぼね）あらはる。臭（くさ）き煙艸（たばこ）をのみ鬼（おに）ころしを
あをる。五州の人にはむけるといふ事有。此島
人は何ほどすりみがきてもむける事。なし
これを瓦（かはら）に比（ひ）して替玉（かへだま）のたぐひといはんか
現代語訳
国の人と同じではない。
○鉄砲島は伏見潮の末端にある○羅生門島は二
丁目国の末にある。角町国より新町国へかけた
島である。江口の遊女が普賢菩薩と現れた
時、乗っていた舟が変じてこの島となった。江口の謡に「
舟は百艘となりつつ」とある。油の払底な
国で、一つ行灯を二軒で使うという。人物は
皆五体不具で、仲介者を取って食う。
まず鼻から先へ食うと言われている。五州の人も
これを恐れて近寄らない。この島の人は白粉を装う
ことが壁土のようである。背中を叩けば白
粉がこっぽりこっぽりと剥げて、木舞竹のような
頬骨が現れる。臭い煙草を飲み、鬼殺しを
あおる。五州の人には剥けるということがある。この島の
人は何ほど擦り磨いても剥けることはない。
これを瓦に比して、替玉の類いと言おうか。

○Teppo Island is at the end of Fushimi tide ○Rashomon Island is at
the end of Ni-cho province. It is an island that extends from Sumi-cho province to Shin-cho province. When the courtesan of Eguchi appeared as Fugen Bodhisattva, the boat she was riding transformed into this island. In the Noh song of Eguchi, it says "the boats became a hundred vessels." It is a country where oil is scarce, and they say one lantern is shared by two households. The people are all physically disabled and devour intermediaries. It is said they eat starting from the nose first. Even the people of the five provinces fear this and do not approach. The people of this island apply white powder like wall plaster. When you strike their backs, the white powder flakes off in chunks, revealing cheekbones like wooden lath bamboo. They smoke foul tobacco and gulp down demon-killer sake. It is said that the people of the five provinces can be peeled. No matter how much the people of this island scrub and polish themselves, they cannot be peeled. Comparing this to roof tiles, should we call them substitutes of the same kind?
