現代語訳
天下泰平のしるし、きっと、つは、つ、もちろん、喧嘩などというものはいつの世にもなければ、脇差は道具屋の店先に簾のごとく、鰹節のように編んで吊るし、鎧兜は誰も値をつける者がなければ、道具屋も看板のように並べて置くのである。
「今時は脇差を買う奴があればあるものだ。世間は広いもの、あいつ、ぼてんと跳ねずにはなるまい。」
「貴様、それを買ってなんになさる？お方、包丁になおして初鰹の刺身とでかけるのか。なんと、きついものか。よく当たりました。」
「この正宗はいくらしますか？」
「言わずに百三十二文におっしゃい。」
「所詮売れないものでございますから、いくらでもまけます。」
「よくお笑いなされば、ただでもあげます。」
英語訳
As a sign of nationwide peace, certainly, battles and such things exist in no era, so wakizashi (short swords) hang in tool shops like reed screens, strung together like dried bonito flakes. Since no one puts a price on armor and helmets, tool shop owners display them like signboards.
"If there's anyone buying wakizashi these days, that would be something! The world is wide - that fellow won't be able to help but jump with excitement."
