子を生する事おそし又日子をゑらひう

種を作ることが遅くなる。また日を選んで植え、生え出て小さいものを抜き去って食べる。株ごとの間隔は一尺ほど。もし移植するなら長さ五六寸になった時、その大きなものを選んで移植すべきである。また曰く、植える方法は、まず草を除き、雨が過ぎて地を耕す。雨が降らなければ一日前から水をかけて地を潤し、翌日よく鋤いて畝を作る。あるいは畝を切り、あるいは一面にまく。上に土を覆うことは一指の厚さほどが良い。
五六日の内に雨があれば水は不要、雨がなければ水を少しかけるべきである。多すぎれば地が固まる。苗が生えて一寸より以上になったら糞水を注ぐべきである。また云う、砂土に植えるべきである。砂土でない所には多くの草灰を用いて地を柔らかくすべきである。土が固ければ根は大きくならない。
また曰く、蕪の実ることは遅い。梅雨に当たれば多くは実らず、しいなが多い。植える時、種を選んでしいなを除くべきである。あるいは揺って良い。実の大きくて円満なものを種とすべきである。もししいなを植えれば根は大きくならず、葉は虫が食う。八月に種まけば葉は良いが根は小さい。ただ七月初めに植えれば根葉ともに良い。○『居家必用』に曰く、肥えた地を六
