現代語訳
この頃大雨が降り続き、川も増水すれば、しばらく旅宿に滞留のうち、この大雨に買い置いた米が一度に値上がりして儲けたという知らせが届いた。
「これはまた、とんでもないことだ。上がり目が見えたなら売らずにおけばよいに、また俺に塞がせる」
「ご尤もでございますが、先々から金に困ってつきまとわれておりますから、致し方がございません。小判だものだ、困ったものだ」と聞こえる。
「所詮、一と振りでは身代も回るまい」と工夫を巡らし、三保の松原の松を掘らせ、江戸までの運賃、これ皆の入用では、よもや金もなくなりそうなものと、まず大勢請負人を集め、入札をさせる。
「なんでも高い方へ落とすから」
「義理養一杯、束もなく、多額積もりやれ」
「入札の儀でございますから、随分儲けるように積もりました」
