現代語訳
ここに御存じのきんきん先生のまた隣に、まんまん先生という者あり。七珍万宝、蔵に満ち満ちて、代々よいように暮らしけるが、物事自由に手の回るのがしきりにうるさく、「三日なりとも貧乏すれば、今の思いはあるまい」と言い、家に伝わる作の大黒を引きずり除けて、貧乏神の絵像を整え掛けて、暦の内の大の悪日を縁日として、心から祈りなしける。
「さればでございます。これでは御家御衰微のもと。おめでとうございます。」
「旦那のお顔もこの頃は貧相におなりなされ...」
「捨てられる神あれば、助けられる神もあり。かてへな。」
「おんぼろぼろ、貧乏なりたや、そわか。」

Here, next to the well-known Kinkin-sensei, there was a person called Manman-sensei. With the seven treasures and myriad riches filling his storehouse to overflowing, he had lived comfortably for generations, but having everything flow freely at his disposal became extremely bothersome to him. He said, "Even if just for three days I were poor, I wouldn't have these current worries," and dragging away the hereditary Daikoku statue from his house, he set up a picture of the God of Poverty and earnestly prayed, designating the most inauspicious days in the calendar as sacred days.
