has been done, so they certainly have arrived and are present, was reported. Therefore, the original ten artillery officers are: Hayashi Bun'emon, the same Gotayū, Wakamatsu Jintayū, the same Jihei, Usuki Yaemon, Arita Kōtayū, Kurushima Sahei, Shinomiya Suketayū, Hirano Takusuke, and Murakami Tōkurō. They were to disembark at Tobata and quickly enter Kokura secretly by land route. Since they were to travel as secretly as possible, they were given one spear per one or two men and instructed to go to Wakamatsunya San'emon's establishment. They quickly disembarked from the cargo ship and headed overland from Tobata to Kokura. The aforementioned ten men initially assigned were given five or six spears and headed to Kokura, arriving at Wakamatsunya San'emon's place by the side of Ōhashi bridge past the hour of the Monkey (around 3 PM) on the same day. 《marginal note: Wakamatsunya serves as Chikuzen lodging; Kurushima Jihē's residence is the regular inn》 Under instructions from Kitamura Yajibē and Kuno Zen'emon, both superiors and subordinates were assigned lodging. When the artillery officers entered Kokura, Kitamura Yajibē and Kuno Zen'emon

moored their own vessel as a boat inn under Ōhashi bridge.
One Although Geki-dono was pressing urgently for the repulsion, the large cannons and various equipment loaded on the aforementioned cargo ship had not reached Kokura, so Kitamura Yajibē and Kuno Zen'emon repeatedly sent messages to Miyoshi Jinzaemon's place in Wakamatsu. However, the weather was poor, and they remained moored at Wakamatsu Sunokuchi until the 14th. Consequently, on the night of the 14th, under instructions from Kitamura and Kuno, Hayashi Gotayū, Wakamatsu Jihei, and Hirano Takusuke were ordered to go to Wakamatsu that very night, consult with Miyoshi Jinzaemon, and arrange for porters to bring all the equipment to Kokura that same night. The three men then went to Wakamatsu, met face-to-face with Miyoshi Jinzaemon, and conveyed the message. Jinzaemon said that since the equipment had been delayed too long, he would consult with Yoshida Hachitayū and around 8 PM that evening would arrange for the large cannons and other items [to be transported] in an eighteen-chō formation.
