英語訳

1. The dismounting of horses and palanquins by the envoys and their attendants was conducted as on the previous day. When the two envoys proceeded from the main entrance (genkan) to the upper floor, the Grand Inspectors (Yokota Bitchū-no-kami and Matsudaira Iwami-no-kami) came out to the wooden veranda to give directions. [The envoys] were seated in the lower tier of the palace reception room (tenjō-no-ma), their attendants were arranged in rows in the adjacent room, and the lower-ranking officials gathered in the front courtyard of the main entrance. 1. Among those who attended for the musical performance, all officials of the fourth rank and above wore hunting robes (kariginu), while the various ministers (shofu) wore formal crested garments (daimon), and those in court dress wore plain robes (sobō). 1. Matsudaira Satsuma-no-kami had arrived at the castle earlier and was seated in the upper position of the lower tier of the palace reception room, above the two envoys. 1. The sliding doors (fusuma) and screens (shōji) of the adjoining room to the lower tier of the great hall (ōhiroma) were removed, and a nine-shaku folding screen was erected from the third pillar on the north side of the Pine Room (Matsu-no-ma) toward the south. 1. In the next room were the hereditary retainers (fudai), in the rear seats were the attending officials (tsumeshū) and other officials of布衣 rank and above, the council members (yoriai), and physicians with the ranks of hōin and hōgen, all waiting in attendance. 1. On the veranda, the attending officials, heads of the ceremonial announcers (sōsha-ban), and officials of the Hibiscus Room (Fuyō-no-ma) were seated in rows. 1. The high-ranking families (kōke) were arranged on the western veranda side. 1. From before the [Shogun's] appearance, Satsuma-no-kami was positioned in the upper area of the lower tier of the great hall... (continues)
