【右丁】
脾胃が弱く、虚冷（体が冷えて虚弱）な人、および大便が漏れやすい人は、多く用いてはならない。しかしながら、好んで酒・鰹節などを調和させて十分に熟成させたものは、性質が穏やかになるはずである。
●一切の飲食物・百薬の毒、ならびに蛇・蜂・蠆（さそりの類）などの有害な虫の毒を解する。●また、飛蛾や蟻など様々な虫が耳に入った際には、少し注ぎ入れると出てくる。●狂犬に噛まれた際には、早く塗るとよい。●諸毒にあたって嘔吐する場合には、冷やして飲めばよく止まる。大便が秘結（便秘）した際には、温めて肛門に注ぎ入れると、よく通じる。多食すると痰を生じ、気を動かす。小児は特に多く摂ってはならず、病気を引き起こす。

酒 上古（いにしえ）には、酒を醸して神を祭り、老人を養うものとされ、いわゆる「天の美禄」である。
まことに百薬の長であるが、それゆえにかえって百害の元ともなる。気味は甘・辛で、大熱があり毒もある。気を巡らし、血を和らげ、鬱（ふさぎ）を解き、瘀血（凝り固まった血）を逐い、寒さを防ぎ、暑さを消し、風湿を散じ、邪悪を殺し、水道を通じ、大腸を滑らかにし、魚・鳥・野菜・果物の毒を解し、薬の効き目を体中に引き回す。また、よく憂いを消し、いきどおりを泄らし、言葉を伸べ、心を伸びやかにする。その功は挙げて数えがたい。しかし常々飲み過ぎれば、身体を悩ませ、神（魂）が昏くなり、寿命を損じ、気を乱し、血を揺るがし、痰を生じ、火（熱）を動かす。およそ一切の毒……

Those with a weak spleen and stomach, those with a deficient and cold constitution, and those prone to loose stools should not consume [soy sauce] in large quantities. However, when it is used in combination with sake, dried bonito, and similar ingredients and fully matured through cooking, its nature becomes mild and moderate.
●It resolves the toxicity of all foods, medicines, as well as harmful creatures such as snakes, bees, and scorpions. ●Furthermore, when various insects such as moths or ants enter the ear, pouring a small amount in will cause them to come out. ●When bitten by a rabid dog, applying it promptly is beneficial. ●When one is struck by various poisons and suffers from vomiting, drinking it cold will effectively stop it. For constipation, warming it and introducing it into the anus will effectively clear the bowels. Excessive consumption generates phlegm and disturbs the qi. Children in particular should not consume large amounts, as it will cause illness.

**Sake (Rice Wine)** In ancient times, sake was brewed to worship the gods and to nourish the elderly — it is what is known as "Heaven's beautiful bounty." Truly it is the foremost among all medicines; yet for that very reason, it is also the source of a hundred harms. Its flavor is sweet and pungent, and it possesses great heat and some toxicity. It circulates the qi, harmonizes the blood, relieves stagnation, expels stagnant blood (血瘀), wards off cold, disperses heat, dissipates wind-dampness, kills evil influences, opens the water passages, smooths the large intestine, resolves the toxins of fish, fowl, vegetables, and fruits, and conducts medicinal efficacy throughout the body. It also effectively dispels sorrow, releases frustration, loosens the tongue, and expands the mind. Its virtues are too numerous to enumerate. However, if one habitually drinks to excess, the body becomes afflicted, the spirit grows dim, the lifespan is shortened, the qi is thrown into disorder, the blood is agitated, phlegm is generated, and internal fire is stirred.
