一 此（この）書（しよ）は。素人（しろうと）の急病（きふびやう）を救（すくひ）得（え）らるべき
ことを旨（むね）としたるものなれば。行旅（たびぢ）の輿（かごの）
中（うち）。または戍兵（さきもり）の在陣（ざいぢん）などに。これを懐（ふところ）
にし。閑隙（いとま）あるときに熟読（じゆくどく）し。予（あらかじめ）これ
を記得（そろえ）おくときには。自己（おのれ）の為（ため）のみ
ならず。衆人（おほくのひと）の病（やまひ）あるときに。医師（いし）な
しと雖（いへども）これを治（ぢ）することを得（え）せしめんが
為（ため）に。薬物（くすり）も専（もつぱら）草方（やくみずゝな）にして実験（たしかなるしるし）を
歴（へ）たるものゝ。且（かつ）修治（こしらへ）やすきものを
択（えらび）て載（のせ）たるなり。故（ゆゑ）に従前（むかし）より世に
伝るところの救急（きうきふ）の書の。徒（いたづら）に衆（あま）
多の方を羅列（かきならべ）たるが。事（こと）あるときに
臨（のぞみ）ては。素人（しろうと）の意（こゝろ）を以て適従（えらびとる）べきと
ころを弁（わきまへ）がたき比（たがひ）にはあらざる也
一 急病（きふびやう）の外にも。宿疾（ぢびやう）の治方（ぢはう）。婦（ふ）人 小児（こども）
の病（やまひ）にいたる迄（まで）も。素人（しろうと）の意得（こゝろえ）て裨益（たすけ）
になるべきこと。はふかたこれを記載（かきのせ）たるは。
済世（よをすくふ）の一助（たすけ）にもなれかしとおもへは。

いる者はこれを枕元に秘蔵することができる。その品格は藍渓・桂山二先生の遺志にほぼ適うものであろうか。その時、予に序文を求めて来られたので、これを書いて返すものである。

一 この書は、素人の急病を救い得ることを目的としたものであるから、旅路の駕籠の中、または守備兵の在陣中などに、これを懐に入れ、暇のある時に熟読し、予めこれを記憶しておく時には、自分のためのみならず、多くの人が病気になった時に、医師がいなくても、これを治すことができるようにするために、薬物も専ら民間薬で実効の確かなもので、かつ調合しやすいものを選んで載せたのである。故に従来より世に伝わるところの救急の書が、徒らに多数の処方を羅列したのが、事ある時に臨んでは、素人の考えでどれを選び取るべきところを判断し難いのとは異なるのである。
一 急病の外にも、慢性疾患の治療法、婦人・小児の病気に至るまでも、素人が理解して役に立つべきことを、方々これを記載したのは、世を救う一助にもなればと思うからである。

General Principles
1. This book is intended to enable laypeople to救急 sudden illnesses. Therefore, whether in a palanquin during travel or while soldiers are stationed in garrison, by keeping this in one's breast pocket and reading it thoroughly during leisure time, and memorizing it in advance, one can treat illnesses not only for oneself but also for many others when they fall ill, even without a physician present. For this reason, the medicinal substances selected are exclusively folk remedies that have proven effectiveness and are easy to prepare. Thus, unlike the emergency medical books that have been transmitted in the world from ancient times, which merely list numerous prescriptions in vain, making it difficult for laypeople to discern which to select when faced with actual situations, this book differs from such approaches.
1. Beyond acute illnesses, I have also recorded treatments for chronic diseases and illnesses of women and children - anything that laypeople can understand and find beneficial - because I hope this might serve as an aid in saving the world.
