天を奉じて運を承ける
皇帝の詔に曰く。朕は恭しく天眷を蒙り、万邦を統御す。声教を広く敷き、遠近すべてを従わせる。遠き荒服の地にあるものも、悉く仁恩に浴す。

代々祖先の祭祀を承継し、並びに寵錫を加える。汝ら琉球国は、南方の辺境に位置し、藩封の職に列す。

中山王世子曾孫尚敬は、屡々使者を派遣して来朝し、貢献を怠らない。福建の境が反乱し、海賊が陸上で暴れ回った際にも、篤く臣節を守り、恭順はますます明らかで、よく忠誠を尽くした。

深く嘉すべきことである。ここに序列により王位を継承すべき時が来て、嗣封を奏請した。朕が思うに、世継ぎは家国の常経であり、爵命は朝廷の重要な典礼である。特に正使翰林院検討海宝、副使翰林院編修徐葆光を遣わし、詔を持参させ、往いて琉球国中山王として封じさせる。汝の国の臣僚、ならびに士庶は、その王を輔佐し、慎んで徳政を修め、益々悃忱を励まし、天家を翼戴し、宗祀を慶延せよ。実にこれこそ汝ら海邦無疆の休である。故にここに詔示し、皆に聞知せしむ。

Reverently serving Heaven and inheriting the Mandate

The Emperor's edict states: I humbly receive Heaven's favor and govern all nations. My teachings and commands are widely promulgated, bringing both far and near under submission. Even those in the remote frontier territories all receive benevolent grace.

Successive generations have maintained ancestral sacrifices, and all receive imperial favor. Your Ryukyu Kingdom is located in the southern borderlands and holds rank among the feudal territories.

The heir-grandson of the Chuzan King, Sho Kei, has repeatedly sent envoys to pay court and has been unfailing in tribute. When the Fujian borders were in rebellion and pirates rampaged on land and sea, he steadfastly maintained his loyalty as a vassal, his respectful obedience became ever more evident, and he fully demonstrated his faithful sincerity.

This is deeply commendable. Now, in proper succession, the time has come for him to inherit the throne, and he has petitioned for investiture. I consider that hereditary succession is the constant principle of family and state, and the conferment of noble rank is a great ceremony of the court. I specially dispatch Chief Envoy Hai Bao of the Hanlin Academy and Vice Envoy Xu Baoguang, Compiler of the Hanlin Academy, bearing this edict to go and invest him as King of Chuzan of the Ryukyu Kingdom. Let the ministers and officials of your kingdom, as well as the scholars and common people, assist your king, carefully cultivate virtuous government, increasingly strengthen sincere devotion, support the imperial house, and extend the prosperity of your ancestral line. This is truly the boundless blessing of your maritime realm. Therefore I issue this edict to make it known to all.
