たる大王の智と云ふべきにあらす是非〳〵
御 望（のぞみ）とある事ならば使をつかはし召捕（めしとり）て
参んに何条事の有べきや何れもいかにと
申されければ一座の人々口を揃（そろへ）平等（ひやうどう）王の評（ひやう）
議（ぎ）甚道理に当（あたつ）て砕（くだ）る大王も尤と聞れければ
いさや路考を召捕に遣すべき使を詮儀（せんぎ）せら
れけるに泰山（たいさん）王申されけるはそれ人生れては定（ぢやう）
業（ごう）にあらざれば此土へは来らざる習なりいざ〳〵
定業帳を詮義あるべしとて取出させつく〳〵
とくり返して申されけるは午の霜月佐野川市
松未の七月中村助五郎 腫物（しゆもつ）にて死すべし
とは有とも菊之丞か命はいまだ尽べき時節
にあらず御使を遣されたりとも彼国には伊
勢八幡を始として彼か氏神王子の稲荷（いなり）なん
ぞとて四も五も喰はぬ手あひにて此界をも
直下（ちよつか）に見下すおへない親父が沢山（たくさん）に守り居
れば中〱表立ての御使にては存もよらず此義
いかにと申されければ初江（しよこう）王進出て申けるは
それこそ安事なんめり愛岩（あたご）山の太郎坊 比良（ひら）
山の次郎坊などに申付なば忽（たちまち）抓（つかむ）て参んこと
現代語訳
大王の智恵と言うべきものではありません。是非ともお望みの事であるならば、使者を遣わして召し捕って参りましょう。何か問題があるでしょうか。皆はいかがですか」と申されると、一座の人々は口を揃えて「平等王の評議は甚だ道理に適っている」と砕けた大王も「もっともである」と聞き入れたので、「さあ、路考を召し捕るために遣わすべき使者を選考しよう」とされた。
泰山王が申されるには「そもそも人は生まれては定業でなければこの土地へは来ない習わしである。さあさあ、定業帳を詮議すべきである」として取り出させ、つくづくと繰り返して申されるには「午年の霜月に佐野川市松、未年の七月に中村助五郎が腫物にて死ぬべし、とはあるが、菊之丞の命はまだ尽きるべき時節ではない。御使者を遣わされたとしても、あの国には伊勢八幡を始めとして、彼の氏神である王子の稲荷などという、四つも五つも食わない手合いで、この世界をも直下に見下す厄介な親父どもが沢山に守っているので、なかなか表立っての御使者では思うようにはいかないでしょう。この件はいかがでしょうか」と申されると、初江王が進み出て申したのは「それこそ安い事でしょう。愛宕山の太郎坊、比良山の次郎坊などに申し付けたならば、たちまち掴んで参ることは

it cannot be called the wisdom of a great king. If this is truly your earnest desire, then let us send an envoy to capture and bring him here. What problem could there be? What do you all think?" When he said this, all the assembled people spoke in unison that "King Byōdō's deliberation is extremely reasonable," and even the previously stubborn great king acknowledged it as "quite right." So they decided, "Now, let us deliberate on who should be sent as the envoy to capture Rokō."
King Taizan said: "Generally speaking, people are not born to come to this land unless it is their predetermined karma. Come now, we should examine the book of predetermined karma." He had it brought out and, reading it thoroughly over and over, said: "It says that Sanogawa Ichimatsu should die in the frost month of the Horse year, and Nakamura Sukegōrō should die of a tumor in the seventh month of the Sheep year, but Kikunojō's life has not yet reached the time when it should end. Even if you send an envoy, in that country there are Ise Hachiman and others, including his tutelary deity, the Inari of Ōji - troublesome old men who don't eat four or five [meals a day] and look down directly upon even this realm, protecting him in great numbers. It would be quite difficult for an official envoy to succeed. What should be done about this matter?" When he said this, King Shokō stepped forward and said: "That should be an easy matter. If we commission Tarōbō of Mount Atago, Jirōbō of Mount Hira and such, they would immediately seize and bring him here.
