十王 方便（てたて）に尽もはや我々が智恵（ちゑ）も中橋（なかばし）
なれは此上は修羅道（しゆらどう）へ使を立 太公望（たいこうぼう）孔明（こうめい）
韓信（かんしん）張良（ちやうりやう）孫子（そんし）呉子（ごし）武則（たけのり）義経（よしつね）正成（まさしげ）道鬼（とうき）
が類の軍師（ぐんし）どもを召れ御 評議（ひやうぎ）然べしと申上
れば末（ばつ）座より色至て赤（あかく）眼（まなこ）の光 鏡（かゞみ）のごとく口
耳のきわまで切て首（くび）有て形なきもの出る
を見れば人の一生の事を見届て帳に記す横（よこ）
目役見る目と云る者なり閻王の前にすゝみ出
かた〳〵の御評議御尤には候得ども是式の事に
修羅道（しゆらどう）へ人を遣し軍師どもを召れんことは
此界の恥辱（ちぢよく）といふべし其上彼等が智謀（ちほう）計略（けいりやく）
にて此方の智恵（ちゑ）を見すかされなばいかなる謀
をなして小夜嵐（さよあらし）の騒動（そうとう）以後太平の地獄
界 再（ふたたび）乱世となるならば上閻王より下 獄卒（ごくそつ）
に至までの難義なれば軍者を御 招（まねき）は御無用
たるべし私は人のかたに居て善悪を規（たゞす）か役
目なれば人々心に思ふ事をも明白に是を知
れり菊之丞を初として其外の役者ども船遊（ふなあそび）
に出べききざし有事兼てより存たり此
虚（きよ）に乗て謀（はかり）給はゝやわか御手に入ざらん哉と

十王も方策に尽きて「もはや我々の知恵も中途半端である。この上は修羅道へ使者を立て、太公望・孔明・韓信・張良・孫子・呉子・武則・義経・正成・道鬼の類の軍師どもを召して御評議するのがよろしかろう」と申し上げると、末席より顔色が極めて赤く、眼の光が鏡のごとく、口が耳の際まで裂けて首があって形のないものが現れた。これを見ると、人の一生の事を見届けて帳簿に記す「横目役見る目」という者であった。閻王の前に進み出て「かたがたの御評議はごもっともではございますが、このような事で修羅道へ人を遣わし軍師どもを召されることは、この界の恥辱というべきです。その上、彼等の智謀・計略によってこちらの知恵を見透かされてしまえば、いかなる謀を成して小夜嵐の騒動以後太平であった地獄界が再び乱世となるならば、上は閻王より下は獄卒に至るまでの難儀となりますので、軍者をお招きになることは御無用でありましょう。私は人の側にいて善悪を正すのが役目なので、人々が心に思うことも明白にこれを知っております。菊之丞をはじめとしてその外の役者どもが船遊びに出るべき兆しがあることを兼ねてより存じておりました。この機に乗じて謀り給えば、たやすく御手に入らないでしょうか」と

Then, from the lowest seat emerged something with an extremely red face, eyes shining like mirrors, a mouth split from ear to ear, having a head but no body. Upon seeing this, it was revealed to be the one called "Yokome-yaku Mirume" (Side-Glance Official Watching Eye), who observes people's entire lives and records them in ledgers. He stepped forward before King Enma and said: "While everyone's deliberations are quite reasonable, sending people to the Asura realm and summoning military strategists for such matters would be a disgrace to this realm. Moreover, if their wisdom and stratagems see through our intelligence, what schemes might they devise? If the hell realm, which has been peaceful since the Sayoarashi incident, were to become chaotic again, it would cause difficulties from King Enma above down to the prison guards below.
