急度申渡べし今一人忍ひに入しは兼て上にも
御存の竜蝦（かまくらゑび）なり年罷寄たれども酒はそこぬけ
ぴんしやんとはねる所が当世のひんぬきなりとて
留守（るす）居役相勤れば元日より人間にまじはり諸寄
合 無尽会（むじんくわい）吉原（よしわら）堺（さかい）町 岡場所（おかばしよ）を初兎角向ふへ廻
りたがり年の暮の浅草市まで年中人にすれ
るが役目なれは定て聞届参んと申上る折から
竜蝦（かまくらゑひ）只今罷帰候と案内させ例（れい）のことく真赤（まつか）にな
り腰（こし）をかゝめて立出れは竜王御覧じ様子いかにと
尋給へばさん候私儀は堺町からふき屋町 楽（かく）屋新
道よし町辺へ入込能々様子承り候処来れ十五日
菊之丞を始として荻野八重桐なんど船遊びに
出るよし微塵（みぢん）毛頭（もうとう）相違なしと詞少に申上れば竜王
甚悦び給い流石（さすが）留守居役を勤る程あつて世間
の穴を能知つて堺町とは気が付たり神妙の働（はたらき）
と御 褒美（ほうひ）に預て髭（ひげ）喰そらしてうづくまる竜王
鰐（わに）鯊魚（ふか）を近く召れ此度の役目汝等罷向ふべし
と有ければ両人ハツトひれ伏申けるは凡（およそ）人を取事私
どもにつゞくものなし海中の儀にて候はゞいなみ申
べきにあらねども船遊と承れば両国永代の

きっと申し渡すべし。もう一人忍びに入れたのは、かねてから上にも御存知の鎌倉海老である。年は取っているけれども酒はいくらでも飲め、ぴんしゃんと跳ねる所が当世の粋人であるとて、留守居役を相勤めれば元日より人間に交じって、諸寄合、無尽会、吉原、堺町、岡場所をはじめ、とかく向こうへ回りたがり、年の暮れの浅草市まで年中人にすれるのが役目であるので、きっと聞き届けて参るだろうと申し上げる折から、鎌倉海老が「ただいま帰って参りました」と案内させ、例のごとく真っ赤になって腰をかがめて立ち出れば、竜王が御覧になって「様子はいかに」と尋ねなさった。「さようでございます。私は堺町から葺屋町、楽屋新道、よし町辺りへ入り込み、よくよく様子を承りました所、来る十五日に菊之丞をはじめとして荻野八重桐なども船遊びに出るよし、微塵も毛頭も相違ございません」と簡潔に申し上げれば、竜王は甚だお喜びになり「流石に留守居役を勤めるほどあって、世間の穴をよく知って堺町とは気が付いた。神妙な働き」と御褒美に預かって、髭を食いそらしてうずくまる。竜王は鰐と鱶を近くに召して「この度の役目、汝等が罷り向かうべし」と仰せになれば、両人ははっとひれ伏して申すには「およそ人を取ることは私どもに続く者なし。海中の儀でございましたらお断り申すべきではございませんが、船遊びと承れば両国永代の
