諸国の人家を虚（むなしく）して来るかと思はれごみほこり
の空に満るは世界の雲も此処より生ずる心地ぞ
せらる世の諺（ことわざ）にも朝より夕まで両国橋の上に
鎗（やり）の三筋たゆる事なしといへるは常の事なんめり
夏の半より秋の初まで涼（すゞみ）の盛（さかり）なる時は鎗（やり）は
五筋も十筋も絶（たへ）やらぬ程の人通りなり名にし
おふ四条河原の涼（すゝみ）なんどは糸鬢（いとびん）にして僕（でつち）にも
連べき程の賑（にぎ）はひにてぞ有ける又かゝるそう〳〵
しき中にも恋といへるものゝあればこそ女太夫に
聞とれて屋敷 中間（ちうけん）門の限（かきり）を忘れ或はしほ
らしき後姿（うしろすがた）に人を押わけ向へ立まれば思ひの
外なる貌（かほ）つきにあきれ先へ行たる器量を誉（ほむ）
れば跡から来る女連（をんなつれ）己が事かと心得てにつと笑
もおかし筒の中から飛出る玉屋が手ぎは闇夜（やみよ）
の錠（ぢやう）を明る鍵（かぎ）屋が趣向ソリヤ花火といふ程こそ
あれ流星（りうせい）其処に居て見物是に向ふの河岸（かし）
から橋の上まで人なだれを打てどよめき川中

諸国の人家を空にして来るかと思われ、塵埃が空に満ちているのは、世界の雲もここより生じる心地がする。世の諺にも「朝から夕まで両国橋の上に槍の三筋絶える事なし」と言うのは常の事であろう。夏の半ばから秋の初めまで涼みの盛んな時は、槍は五筋も十筋も絶えることのない程の人通りである。名に負う四条河原の涼みなどは、糸鬢にして丁稚にも連れて行けるほどの賑わいであった。またこのような騒々しい中にも恋というものがあればこそ、女太夫に聞きとれて屋敷の中間が門限を忘れ、或いは美しい後ろ姿に人を押し分けて向かって立てば、思いの外な顔つきに呆れ、先へ行った器量を褒めれば、後から来る女連れが自分のことかと心得てにっと笑うのも面白い。筒の中から飛び出る玉屋の手際、闇夜の錠を開く鍵屋の趣向。「それ花火」というやいなや流星がそこにいて見物、これに向かいの河岸から橋の上まで人雪崩を打って騒めき、川中にも煮売りの声々、田楽、酒、諸白酒。汝陽が涎、李白が嘔吐、劉伯倫は巾着の底をたたき、猩々は焼石を吐き出す。茶舟、平田、猪牙、屋根舟、屋形船。
