岩木にあらされば我￣レ思ふ人の捨がたくやゝ打
ながめ居たりしが互に云出る詞もなく打しも
風のそよと吹ければ彼男ふりあをむきて
身は風とならはや君か夏衣
と吟しければ菊之丞取あへず
しばし扇の骨を垣間見
是より少しほころびて彼男舟さし寄（よせ）菊之丞
が舟につなぎ捨て打のりつゝ日の暮てより
越（こよ）のふ涼しくなりたりなんどゝよそ事にいひ
ものすれば菊之丞は手づから銚子杯なんどたづ
さへ来り先程ふつゝかなる口ずさみにやんごと
なき御脇給はりしより只人ならず見参らせ
たり一 樹（しゆ）の陰（かけ）一 河（が）の流（なかれ）も一かたならぬゑにし
となん聞侍りたり何国の人にてましますそや御名
ゆかしと尋れば我は浜（はま）町辺に住るものなり夏
の間は暑をさけんため人なんどもつれず我
一人小舟に棹さし比風景を楽（たのしみ）とせりしかるに
けふ思はずも君が姿（すがた）を垣間（かいま）見しより思ひは
はれぬ天雲（あまくも）のゆくら〳〵と釣舟の浪にたゞよふ

水に映った面影をやや見とれていたその風情は、さすがに岩木ではないので、自分が思う人として捨てがたく、やや眺めていたが、互いに言い出す言葉もなく、そうしていると風がそよそよと吹いたので、あの男は振り仰いで
身は風となりたいものだ、あなたの夏衣のために
と吟じたので、菊之丞はとっさに

これから少し打ち解けて、あの男は舟を寄せて菊之丞の舟に繋ぎ、乗り移って「日が暮れてから越後の風が涼しくなりましたね」などと他愛のないことを言うので、菊之丞は自ら銚子や杯などを持参していて「先ほどのつたない口ずさみに、立派な脇句をいただいたので、ただの人ではないとお見受けしました。一樹の陰、一河の流れも浅からぬ縁と聞いております。どちらの国の方でいらっしゃいますか、お名前をお聞かせください」と尋ねると「私は浜町辺りに住む者です。夏の間は暑さを避けるため、人なども連れずに私一人で小舟に棹差して、このような風景を楽しみとしております。ところが今日思いがけずもあなたの姿を垣間見てから、思いは晴れぬ雲のようにゆらゆらと、釣舟が波に漂うように
