定（さだめ）なき世と人ごとにいへども世の定なきよりは
只定なきは人の心にてぞ有ける古人 春宵（しゅんしやう）
一刻値千金（いつこくあたいせんきん）とめつたに高ばれば又 浮世（うきよ）を三
分五厘と捨売（すてうり）にする男もあり然ども春宵
一刻に千金出して買たわけもなく三分五厘
に売て仕舞ふ出来合の浮世もなしいかに
口から地代の出ぬものなればとて出る侭のいひたい
事つまる処は能も悪もいひなし次第の浮世
にて浮世の定なきは人の心の定なきなり聖（せい）

定めなき世と人は皆言うけれども、世の中が定まらないというよりは、ただ定まらないのは人の心なのである。古人は「春宵一刻値千金」と非常に高く評価すれば、また浮世を三分五厘と捨て値で売る男もいる。しかしながら、春宵一刻に千金を出して買ったわけでもなく、三分五厘で売って仕舞う既製品の浮世もない。どんなに口先だけで地代も出ないものだからといって、言いたい放題言うが、つまるところは良いも悪いも言いなし次第の浮世であって、浮世が定まらないのは人の心が定まらないからである。聖人...

Though people commonly say this world is uncertain, rather than the world itself being uncertain, it is simply that human hearts are uncertain. The ancients highly praised "one moment of a spring evening is worth a thousand pieces of gold," yet there are also men who sell the floating world at a throwaway price of three bu and five rin. However, there is no reason to pay a thousand gold pieces for one moment of a spring evening, nor is there any ready-made floating world to be sold off for three bu and five rin. No matter how much one may speak without paying any ground rent, saying whatever comes to mind, in the end it is a floating world where good and bad depend entirely on how one speaks of them.
