一本ずつ、白銀一枚ずつ、豆銀一粒ずつ、計六品である《割書：また別の記録によると、万次郎が母への土産として握っていた金四万寸金二つを所持していたが、これも長崎で召し上げられたという》
一 子年《割書：嘉永五年・壬子年》、藩から受け取り役人をはじめ地下役人等が来て、長崎に到着。同月二十三日、右の御役屋敷において藩の御役人へ引き渡しとなった。同所の新橋御用達商人西川三次郎という人の所に滞在し、同月二十五日長崎を出発。道中海陸とも滞りなく、七月十一日高知城下へ帰着。東境町松尾屋方に監禁され、御目付方の詮議が済むまで諸人との面会を禁じられた。宇佐浦組頭雄九郎、中ノ浜地下役人共が始終詰めて監視し、九月二十八日までに御用が済んで両浦庄屋へ引き渡され、十月十五日中ノ浜浦に帰着した。かくして万次郎はまず庄屋方へ行き、母並びに兄弟を呼びに遣わすと、その沙汰を聞いて在所中の者共も我も我もと駆けつけて来て、万次郎への歓迎を言う者もあって、しばらくの間庄屋の門前は市をなした。その内に母が茫然として万次郎の顔を眺めて

いるのを、万次郎が「ただいま帰って参りました。まずはお元気で何よりです」と言うと、母は「それでは万次郎か」と飛びかかって抱きつき、しばらく涙にむせび泣いた。さて庄屋の前に来て、この者は万次郎ではないと言う人がいたので、庄屋が「実に万次郎に相違ない。久しく会わなかった故に容貌を見忘れたことは当然である」と言うと、ようやく納得した様子で連れ立って帰った。一日二日過ぎるまでは、とかく夢心地で信用できない様子であったが、日数を経るにしたがって、いよいよ我が子であると思い、夢から覚めた心地で次第に歓びが生まれて、喜悦に限りがなくなったということである《割書：一本によると、長崎の役人から土佐藩の受け取り御役人へ仰せられたのは「まず今度はお渡し返すけれども、当地へ召し抱え置いて重宝な者である。その段を土佐藩へお留めの由を仰せられた」ということである。万次郎は冥福な者と言うべきである》
