They are thin and long, and slightly flat. These are all types that ordinary people commonly produce. Like the famous farting man, when it comes to the wondrous and marvelous, there is no sound he cannot produce, no form he cannot create. When asked how this came to be, his mother always favored sweet potatoes, and one night she dreamed of swallowing a fire-blowing bamboo tube and conceived. He was born in the Year of the Weasel of the Hōhi era, around spring when plum blossoms were fragrant, and as he grew to adulthood, he gradually perfected his skills in farting.
The farting man is now the great sensation of all Edo. "Flatulence helps one make a living" - this must be what is meant. The wandering monk Muichibō from Sanuki takes up his brush at his temporary residence in Kanda.
