かならざる事有べからずと思ひしが。今是を
見て始（ハジメ）て驚（オドロ）く。それ燧（ヒウチ）と石 扁柏（ヒノキ）と扁柏
相激（アイゲキ）する歟。又は日輪（ニチリン）の水精（スイセウ）硝子（ビイドロ）を照（テラ）し。
或（アルヒ）は鏡（カヽミ）に映（エイ）ずる時は火を生じ。時に臨（ノゾン）では
目からも出 骹（スネ）からも出。扨又 貧（ヒン）なる家内（カナイ）へは。
火の降（フル）事も有とは聞（キケ）ども。かゝる事は思ひも
よらず。いかなる理（リ）にて火（ヒ）出るや。後学（コウカク）の為（タメ）
承んと。其時主人うち点頭（ウナヅキ）。書（シヨ）を読（ヨム）斗（バカリ）を学問
と思ひ。紙上の空論（クウロン）を以て格物（カクブウ）【ママ】窮理（キウリ）と思ふ
より間違も出来るなり。さらば火の出る根元（コンゲン）
をお目にかけんと。取出す小冊（セウサツ）に。昔語（ムカシガタリ）花咲（ハナサキ）
男（ヲトコ）放屁論（ハウヒロン）と題号（ダイゴウ）せり。主人 笑（ワラツ）て申けるは。抑（ソモ〳〵）
此 放屁（ヘツヒリ）といつは。四年以前 両国橋（リヤウゴクバシ）の辺（ホトリ）にて。
花咲男と号’（ナヅケ）。見せものにて近年（キンネン）の大当り。

ないはずの事があるとは思わなかったが、今これを見て初めて驚いている。それは火打ち石と石、檜と檜が互いに激しくぶつかり合うのか。または太陽が水晶やガラスを照らし、あるいは鏡に映る時は火を生じ、時には目からも出て、脛からも出る。さてまた貧しい家庭へは火が降ることもあると聞いているが、このようなことは思いもよらなかった。いかなる原理で火が出るのか。後学のために教えていただきたい」と言った。その時主人はうなずいて、「書を読むことばかりを学問と思い、机上の空論をもって物事の本質を究めることと思うところから間違いも起こるのです。それでは火の出る根元をお目にかけましょう」と、取り出した小冊子に「昔語り花咲男放屁論」と題されていた。主人は笑って申すには、「そもそもこの放屁というのは、四年前に両国橋の辺りで花咲男と名乗り、見世物として近年の大当たりとなった
