合へし合 中（ナカ）より先（マツ）看板（カンバン）を見ればあやしの

三番叟（サンバソウ）なんど数多（アマタ）の品を一所（イツシヨ）に寄（ヨセ）て画（エガキ）たる
現代語訳
屁はいうもさらなり。砧、すがゞき、三番叟、三つ地、七草、祇園囃子、犬の鳴き声、鶏の声、花火の響きは両国を欺き、水車の音は淀川に似せている。道成寺、菊慈童、ほうためりやす、伊勢音頭、一中、半中、豊後節、土佐文弥、半太夫、外記、河東、大薩摩、義太夫節の長いことも、忠臣蔵、矢口渡は望み次第。一段ずつ三味線浄瑠璃に合わせ、比類なき名人が現れたと聞くよりも見ぬことは、話にならず。
さあ行って見ようとて、二三人連れ立って横山町より両国橋の広小路へ、橋を渡らずして右へ行けば、昔語り花咲男とことごとしく幟を立て、僧俗男女が押し合いへし合いしている中より、まず看板を見れば、あやしの男が尻をもったてている後ろに、薄墨で隈取りして、かの道成寺、三番叟など数多の品を一所に寄せて描いたる。

Needless to say about flatulence. The fulling block, small drum music, Sambaso dance, triple beats, seven herbs, Gion festival music, dogs' barking, roosters' calls—the sound of fireworks deceives Ryogoku, and the sound of water wheels mimics the Yodo River. Dojoji Temple, Kiku Jido, "Houtameri yasu," Ise folk songs, Ichu-bushi, Hanchu-bushi, Bungo-bushi, Tosa Bunya, Hantayu, Geki, Kato-bushi, Osatsuma—even the lengthy Gidayu-bushi pieces like Chushingura and Yaguchi no Watashi are performed as requested. Each act accompanied by shamisen and joruri, an incomparable master has appeared.
Rather than just hearing about it without seeing, that would be no story at all. "Come, let's go and see!" So two or three companions set out together from Yokoyama-cho toward the broad street of Ryogoku Bridge. Without crossing the bridge, turning right, they found banners grandly erected for "The Storytelling Flower-Blooming Man," with monks, laypeople, men and women pushing and shoving against each other. Looking first at the signboard amidst the crowd, they saw a strange man with his buttocks raised, and behind him, painted in light ink with kumadori makeup, were numerous scenes including the famous Dojoji Temple and Sambaso dance, all drawn together in one place.
