皆いふ労瘵（らうさい）なりこれを補（おぎな）はゞ病いよ〳〵劇（はげ）しかるべし
然して脾気（ひき）おとろへたり春（はる）になり木気（ぼくき）旺（わう）ずる時に
至りなば木尅土（もくこくど）と脾胃（ひい）いよ〳〵衰憊（すいはい）せんといふこれに
よりて李子（りし）か父（ちゝ）大きに憂（うれい）て孫景祥（そんけいじやう）を邀（むかへ）て此（これ）を視（み）
す祥脉（しやうみやく）を胗（しん）じて云はく此病（このやまひ）春（はる）にいたりて愈（いゆ）べし
父子（ふし）恠（あやし）みて是を問ふ孫（そん）が云はく此病 心火（しんくわ）にあり春に
いたらば木（き）旺（わう）じて木生火（ぼくしやうくは）と心火（しんくは）生気（せいき）を得べし諸医の
脾病（ひびやう）といふものは其 本（もと）を揣（はから）ざるがゆへなり病者（びようじや）本（もと）憂鬱（ゆううつ）
あらずやといへば李（り）氏が云はくあり我（われ）妻（さい）をうしなひ弟（おとふと）を
失（うしな）へり是より憂鬱（ゆううつ）すること久して積（しやく）と成れり
諸医は此 病因（びやういん）を察（さつ）せず我また其ことを忘れて云は
ざるなり然らば治すべしやといへば薬（くすり）急（いそぐ）べからず五日に
一 服（ふく）して春にいたらばまさに愈（いゆ）べしといひしに果し
て春にいたりて本復（ほんぶく）せしとなり是医は気候（きこう）を知り
運気（うんき）に達（たつ）し其日〳〵の支干（しかん）晴晦（せいくわい）気色（けしき）がらをかんがへ土（ど）
用（よう）八専（はつせん）の病気を犯（おかす）事知るべし既（すで）に脉学四言挙要（みやくがくしげんきよよう）に
春秋（はるしう）脉（みやく）を得れば死 金日（きんじつ）に有といふは医の常に記臆（きおく）
する所ならずや然して補瀉損益（ほしやそんゑき）を旨（むね）とすべきに
現代語訳
皆が言うには「労瘵（結核）である。これを補えば病気はますます激しくなるであろう。そして脾気が衰えている。春になって木気が旺盛になる時に至れば、木剋土で脾胃がますます衰弱するであろう」と言う。これによって李子の父は大いに憂えて孫景祥を招いてこれを診察させた。
景祥は脈を診て言うには「この病気は春に至って治るであろう」。父子は怪しんでこれを問う。孫が言うには「この病気は心火にある。春に至れば木が旺じて木生火となり、心火が生気を得るであろう。諸医が脾病と言うのは、その根本を推し量らないためである。病者には元々憂鬱があったのではないか」と言えば、李氏が言うには「ある。私は妻を失い、弟を失った。これより憂鬱すること久しくて積となった。諸医はこの病因を察知せず、私もまたそのことを忘れて言わなかった。そうであれば治せるだろうか」と言えば、「薬を急ぐべからず。五日に一服して、春に至ればまさに治るであろう」と言ったところ、果たして春に至って本復したという。
これは医者が気候を知り、運気に通達し、その日々の支干、晴晦、気色などを考え、土用八専の病気を犯すことを知るべきである。既に『脈学四言挙要』に「春秋の脈を得れば死は金日にあり」というのは、医者が常に記憶するところではないか。そうして補瀉損益を旨とすべきなのに

All the physicians said, "This is consumptive disease (tuberculosis). If we supplement it, the illness will become increasingly severe. Moreover, the spleen qi has weakened. When spring comes and wood qi becomes vigorous, through the wood overcoming earth principle, the spleen and stomach will become even more debilitated." Because of this, Li's father was greatly worried and summoned Sun Jingxiang to examine the condition.
Jingxiang took the pulse and said, "This illness will be cured when spring arrives." The father and son found this strange and questioned him about it. Sun said, "This illness lies in heart fire. When spring comes, wood will flourish and through wood generating fire, the heart fire will gain vital energy. What the various physicians call spleen disease is because they do not fathom its root. Did the patient not originally have melancholy?" When asked this, Mr. Li said, "Yes. I lost my wife and lost my younger brother. From this time, I have been melancholic for a long time and it has become an accumulation. The various physicians did not perceive this disease cause, and I also forgot to mention it. If so, can it be cured?" He replied, "Do not rush with medicine. Take one dose every five days, and when spring arrives it will surely be cured." As predicted, when spring came, he completely recovered.
This shows that physicians should know climate, understand the flow of qi, consider the daily stem-branch combinations, clear and overcast weather, atmospheric conditions, and know about violating illnesses during the earth periods and eight specializations. Already in the "Pulse Studies Four Maxims Essential Points" it says "If one gets spring-autumn pulse, death will be on a metal day" - is this not what physicians should always remember?
